The New Pier

Great photos RF we're very much looking forward to a couple of longish visits over xmas.

When I was there early morning there were two ladies doing the massages but they weren't sisters. One was from Nepal and I had her life story. I gave her mine too - was actually kind of nice, knowing there was pretty minimal chance we'd ever meet again.

agree it is a top lounge. I'll reserve full judgement as I wasn't there over lunch or dinner.

Ha ha - the Nepalese lady was there, treating the other pax; I came in on the end and heard a bit of the story , too!!

How does the food in the Pier compare to what's offered in the QF Mel and Syd F lounges ?

I'd have to have a few more goes at The Pier a la carte to make a fair comparison :). On menus, the QF F lounge seems a bit more diverse.

The Pantry selection at the Pier is a lot better than the help-yourself selection at QF F lounges.

Just from the menus and a minimal sampling of the breakfast menu, visual of the pantry and the bar - I'd say QF F lounges have far better wines and variety, and the all day dining options more extensive. But Pier lounge wins for breakfast menu (several Asian options along with western sweet options and eggs etc any way you like). The bar looked better in Pier as well (at least in terms of spirits options) - though I didn't sample given early hour and midway to Europe.

I have a question, im flying first class vancouver to hong kong on Cathay in january. Flight arrives in hong kong at around 7am. Because of lack of award availability we have decided to spend the day looking around the city before flying out Qantas economy that night. If i keep my boarding pass do you think i will be able to access the pier first class lounge in the afternoon given i have just got off a first class flight that day (morning)???

Nolzy I have done that before arrived from Lon first thing in First, had access to the First lounges during transit to Business.

I think you only get access if your onward flight on the same day is also on CX metal ?

Perhaps someone else can confirm.

Yes, F lounging for you :D All as per OW rules https://www.oneworld.com/ffp/lounge-access

oneworld lounge access for First Class or Business Class customers

Indulge yourself before departure in a wider range of airport lounges when you fly First Class or Business Class with any oneworld member airline.

  • Customers flying First or Business Class have access to the equivalent class of lounge regardless of their frequent flyer status. First Class passengers may use a Business Class or frequent flyer lounge if a First Class lounge is not available.
  • First Class passengers may invite one guest to join them in the lounge. The guest must also be travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline.
  • Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights:
    • First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).
    • Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight.
    • You must be prepared to show your boarding pass or itinerary showing travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight

Well I thought I'd give the new Pier F lounge a go since I've got 5 hours to kill and compare with the Wing F lounge where I had 5 hours in 4 days ago. I spent a fair bit of time in the Cabana in that visit. The bath was big enough for me to stretch out and actually float in.
Well like others I am quite impressed with the new Pier F lounge. There are enough pics already posted of the lounge so I thought I'd just share with you my meal tonight. My initial impressions is I that I like the feel of the new Pier better.

Tonight's wine list and a la carte menu.
for my wine tonight I chose the first listed red. It was French and 8 years old so I thought I'll give that a go

Thanks for posting Goodonya. Perhaps not as good a bar selection as I thought - get almost the same whiskeys in a QF domestic business lounge.

Still, I reckon it is a very good lounge. How crowded is it and are you posting from the lounge (ie, what time)?

agree about the bar. I'm in the lounge now about to have dessert. 8:30pm not crowded.

I've gone for the Mango sticky rice for dessert.
Basically half a mango sitting on a bed of coconut milk sticky rice.
quite nice.

An expresso and Napoleon VSOP to finish.
together with the Moët starter that about does me

This is my first visit to the Pier (old or new) and I agree with the OP - Wow. I am impressed. I started in the Wing and will happily call in there again but this is a really nice space and I think much better

I am in the new Pier First lounge now.

It is quiet. No buffet food only meals off the menu. It is OK. Steady may need to explain to me why it's so special.

Not saying the Wing is better but the roast beef tenderloin was great. So were the chilli prawns. And the salmon. And roast potatoes. And Qantas was quiet ok too.

To each their own.
