The Operational Upgrade Thread

Sorry for a longer post that was probably summed up in the first paragraph, but hey, it was my first ever QF Op-up. The J seat/service really isn't that special on the SYD-MEL commute, but I was happy in principle to finally receive an undocumented 'halo' benefit of getting to WP. ;)

Congrats, my op-ups, so far, look drier than the Atacama Desert. Well Done!:)

Also goes to show that even though you should never get your hopes up, op-ups really can happen right up until the door shuts. :p
Congratulations.

And just for the record some us have had inflight (or onboard) op-ups after the doors have been well and truly shut and the plane is in the air. ;)

Finally broke the drought tonight.

That's awesome. I still long for that elusive domestic op-up, though I have had a fair share of beeping tease.

Received an op-up on the SYD-MEL flight this morning. This is my 9th op-up for the year.

No Op Ups this year as WP. Two last year as SG. Both domestic.
First OP-UP MEL-SYD, FA treated me like I was not there. Was in Row 3 737. Walked up with newspapers to first two J rows then turned around! Have been offered this in Y numerous times when extras were available. So I asked for a newspaper, response: "this is the last newspaper!" (! for the rude tone of voice)
Hmm, so you are keeping it for yourself, I was tempted to ask...
As this was on Op-Up, did not say anything else. Well the FA may know that I am an OP-UP but don't believe you should be treated poorly.....

Two inflight op ups this year for me internationally with Qantas, plus one pre flight op up Y to Y+ and one one pre flight op up Y+ to J internationally.

I have also been lucky with BA - two op ups from Y+ to J.

Nothing domestically...yet!! ..but I'm not complaining.

Was crossing everything for an op-up on this evenings QF94 but alas no. Looks like an oversold flight but there's still showing 4 in Y+. Baring a last minute beep-at-the-gate, i'm stuck where I paid for :)

Anyone ever had a the 'beep' at TBIT?

My last beep at the gate was on an international flight to LHR from SYD on BA. Upgraded from J to F. Haven't had one since, but mind you I am always flying in J on flights where J is the highest fare/class. I do have a few flights over the xmas period, all in J, but have booked one leg I am taking on Xmas day in Y (adl-syd), just to see if Qantas will be in the Xmas spirit and bestow on me a xmas op-up.......stay tuned......

I did get "beeped" at TBIT...got off a AA flight from Vegas and then connected to the QF A380, op-up to Y+

To make it better I was on a $999 special from SYD to LAX with 3 friends and we all got beeped

:)

I got the beep on QF94 on Monday night out of LAX. For some reason I was given a Window seat though, and someone that wasn't WP next to me was also given the beep at gate upgrade.

My preference is firmly set to 'Aisle' everywhere as I hate having to climb over people to get out but don't mind moving to let people out. It was still excellent to be able to sleep on an overnight flight though (means i'm now very awake and functioning whereas i'd be asleep if it had been in whY).

That's two to Y+ in 12 months for me, and an ADL-MEL as well (but that's a 734, so that really doesn't count IMHO).

Who doesn't love an op up from a VERY cheap fare? So much more satisfying ....

Bumped into J ex CNS for BNE this afternoon on an O class fare, that makes it 100% for heading home from DRW for me in the last 6 months, I have been lucky. No chance of getting one DRW-CNS on the 717 but 1A with three windows is pretty much one anyway! And for once I dont have a car at the airport, pity the QP bar is still a noon opening .

thewinchester would like to announce he's the proud father of his first baby op-up.

Born on 9 November at 7:15am, his baby op-up was delivered for QF21, currently delayed 13hrs out of SYD heading to NRT. Check-in 'nurse' Wendy even delivered the upgrade with an express pass and a AUD20 meal voucher (which was used at Trattoria Prego - and let me tell you, the croc monsieur from there was divine).

He's hoping the Y+ seat he'll be sitting is has been cleaned up by the 'nurses', having received it from a X class YASA P+P fare. I dare say that my assisting overworked ground staff with corralling & managing the poor folk also inconvenienced by last nights cancellation might have resulted in the Y+ upgrade as a small but unconnected thank you. That we'll never know, but I'll be submitting a eXcel award for all of the wonderful staff regardless.

More soon in my TR.

Ahh yes, how I used to hate the beep as PS/SG years ago - as generally it meant they were moving you backwards in the plane - back when pre-flight seat allocation meant nothing... now as WP, a beep generally only results in moving forward to the pointy end ;)

And I agree, nothing sweeter than an upgrade on a O class fare :p I have found a pattern - travelling at the start/end of school holidays when economy loads of non-status pax are high...

Ahhh! "Upgrade Season"; also extends to around Christmas and New year.

Let's hope so, I have 3 x return SYD-BNE in Dec/Jan Festy Season. :p

As long as you stay off my flights :)

I only have two flights around then in Y anyway and they're on Christmas Eve. The first one is CBR-SYD (Dash 8) and then SYD-BNE (767).

Coming back is booked in J (well, D) giving me the flexibility to come back when I want so unless QF launches domestic F before then there's no chance of an op up :D
