The Operational Upgrade Thread

11 AUG - QF15 BNE-LAX

Was more just a nice feeling to finally get one...alot of my travel is AD, so don't often get it.

TG

A friend got y+ to j on V Aust on sept 10.

I missed out on same route on QF15 in y+ on sept 8.

He's NB and I was PG (post that flight now SG).
His was full fare y+ bought one month out, and mine on sale about 2 months out.

Stars only align once I'm sure. It'll never happen again (and if it does i'll be sure not to tell you ;))

And you did get the unofficial Y+ upgrade on QF74 last year, thanks to an a/c sub (with a cabin manager who knew how to look after people on long haul flights too!). Not a true op-up, but one of the nicer surprises to have :)

June 08, I was on Red-e Deal (BNE-LAX), wife and two kids on award tickets, we all got upgraded to "J", call it the GFC special, 4 at once...needless to say we had a good flight. Wife and kids flew home alone via Syd 3 weeks later, they all got upgraded. I flew back in whY, 7 out of 8, very cool.

Am back to BNE on 17th from LAX, lets see what happens this time...

Upgraded into 1J on QF924 SYD-CNS this morning.

EF was showing J8 Y3 yesterday, but suspect this op-up was more to do with QF forcing me to miss QF932 last night (due to late arrival of QF56 from AKL) and putting me up in SYD overnight.

Hello from BOS where I am awaiting AA145.

BP indicates first ever op-up (Y+ to J) on QF16. Hurrah! Qualified for Gold for the first time only on Sept 8. Wonder if that helped or it was going to happen anyway? Loadings looked chockers in Y+ (zero'd weeks in advance) so presumably that's why unless there's been an a/c swap fro the 2-class. Anyone know which a/c is operating QF 16 tonight?

(Note Y+ was J seating so not that big a deal in the scheme of things, but still, nice.)

Your on VH-OJB, both J and Y+ look very full.

I received my 8th (7 domestic / 1 international) Op-up for this calendar year - K to J on QF462 (MEL-SYD) this evening.

My +1 would have to be the jammiest when it comes to op-ups.

He does not like me paying for DOM J for him as he sees it as a waste of money.

Almost every time we have flown he has been op-upped and has got to sit next to me.

I think the FA's quite like him!!

Reprinted BP in LAX had "Upgrade due to oversold". Y+ was very full some weeks out. J wasnt full - I initially had empty seat next to me (and at least a couple of others were spare too) but they moved someone into the seat next to me. Didnt matter as the whole of upstairs slept so it was nice and dark and quiet. I moved into 16A before the moved pax arrived which is better anway. I suspect it was an onboard upgrade, couldnt work out why, but cabin crew were fawning over him for some reason.

Confirm OJB was the operating a/c.

Arrived 20mins early this am - guess it makes up for the 2hr delay going northbound on QF15.:-|

I was on the one after you (QF464) and received a bump up to J too. Obviously, lots of people couldn't wait to get out of MEL...

School Holidays is a good time for Op UPs, especially one or two days before they start!

There was an exodus out of MEL last night. J cabin was full on the flight and i saw a few QFF's getting upgraded at the gate. My colleague on a K fare couldn't get an earlier flight.

QF16 LAX-BNE, 17 Sept. Oversold, noticed my whY seating had moved to PE 4-5 days prior to departure. Got to LAX, was upgraded to Business. Double upgrade, had that a few times now on QF16, when the 4 class 747 is flying.

Will be interesting to see how things go when 4 class ERs operate on QF15/16 soon.

I know this is qantas but had a good run last week when flying to Ghana via dubai with Emirates, upgraded from J to F on first 2 sectors, used points on the third but stuck in business on the final sector

Not an op-up but along the same lines. Tomorrow's QF9 at T-24 was showing Y=0, Y+=2, J=15 and F=6. Right now at T-18 it is showing Y=9, Y+=4, J=5 and F=4. Just shows you that when flights appear full the old points upgrades kicks in and magic, many Y seats left. I am on this flight in Y (been ages flying Y) and was hoping for an op-up but if not am happy with my Y seat selection. (damm customer that does not pay for J)

"stuck" in business, oh.. poor you! ;)

Got an op-up from Y+ to J on BA15, BKK to LHR. I was surprised and delighted at this, totally unexpected.

I was going to start a thread asking if Qantas Frequent Flyers had any experience of OP-UPs on BA flights too.

Mind you I have to say that BA J is looking a little tired.

I was going the opposite direction that night and, as with the last three trips I've made SYD-MEL, a flight or two was cancelled/delayed necessitating pax being bumped onto our flight resulting in a full flight - despite finally being WP, on a B fare, and numerous others getting opup'd, I couldn't score one even if they were being given away. On the other hand, Mrs Djf has a 100% record of opups on that leg.

Honestly, I don't even care about the seat/service - it's the rotten luck of always being overlooked and never getting the red light and double beep that bugs me! :p

Im just a lowly QP Silver member and after purchasing an O (I think) sale fare from WLG-MEL on a 737-400 my travelling partner and I were both upgraded on check-in to J because Y was full. Was great especially considering I couldn't have even requested to be upgraded due to fare type. The bottle of 2006 Penfolds RWT I drank on the flight cost more than the discount economy sale fare! :D
