The Operational Upgrade Thread

The Op-Up thread

The best one I've ever heard of (and it's another AFF member, so it's probably posted around here somewhere) was a flight from LHR to MEL in discount whY with a successful points upgrade to J and then an on-board upgrade to F.

Was seriously unimpressed..!

I'm still maintaining my 100% perfect record of absolutely 0 op-ups on any carrier ever.. :(

I too have that seriously impressive record, hoping to break my duck next month as J almost full on upcoming flight. I have a very annoying WP work colleague who seems to score them on almost every flight !

Can slightly one-up that one, upgraded from Y to J on LHR-MEL service a few years back, and ended up being bumped to F (Someone had been bumped to F but his wife wasn't allowed up, so she asked if I minded swapping with him so they could sit together, asked the CSM and all was done, that was a nice flight back home!)

Stars only align once I'm sure. It'll never happen again (and if it does i'll be sure not to tell you ;))

And you did get the unofficial Y+ upgrade on QF74 last year, thanks to an a/c sub (with a cabin manager who knew how to look after people on long haul flights too!). Not a true op-up, but one of the nicer surprises to have :)

Very interesting and totally unexpected op-up SYD-BNE on Sunday.

I was in 23J on an international config 767-338. Was one of the last to board and got to my allocated seat and sat down and there is man sitting in 23K with his 8 month old daughter. Cute girl and she took my headset pack and would not let go. Started chatting to the man and he was part of a group (friends/family?) of 6 but his wife is down in 56A. I said to him I don't mind moving but I am not going down to row 56. By the way he did not ask I simply offered.

Had a quick look around the cabin and all I could see was a lady sitting in 26J with 26K vacant and all others vacant seats were middle seats. I asked the FA if it was possible to bring this man's wife up from 56A and I will move back to row 26. The FA went away for a few minutes and came back and said the captain wants us in original seats for take-off but we can move around after take off.

As soon as the seatbelt sign went off I got up and went to row 26 asking the lady if it was allright for me to sit next to her as I wanted this mans wife to move up from row 56 to sit next to her husband. She willingly agreed but no sooner had I finished asking the lady in row 26 the FA and the CSM came down and asked me to go with them. They took me into the business class cabin and said that I could sit there but I would still have economy catering. No problem. :D

Sat in 5K :D and the FA from economy asked if I wanted a muffin (which I took) and a diet coke. There were only about 5-6 people in business class and the FA serving come down to me and I explained my situation. She said hang on a minute and went up to the galley and said there was a spare salad with prosciuto and I could have it if I wanted. So I grabbed the salad and a couple of crown lagers as well.

It was a good flight and totally unexpected. I went back and said hello to the husband and wife in 23JK and they thanked me for my kind gesture. The baby was still holding on to the headpack set. :D

JohnK , thats karma, much better outcome than venting at things you dont have control over, which most of us do from time to time ;)

I wouldn't go that far just yet but I did get rewarded for genuinely wanting to help someone.

And I would have been just as happy if I did not receive the op-up and I was sitting in row 26 and the little girl had her mother next to her. :)

T'was a while ago now, but I've only ever been Op'd up once... I think I've used up all my Op up 'credits' on this one though.

It was on MH and I went from Y to J (full flight) to F (someone else was sitting in my assigned seat, so I was asked if I wanted 1K) :D

Was my first ever F flight as well... Prior to that I didn't know what I was missing out on. However now the bug has well and truely bitten

I flew QF29 MEL-LHR a few weeks back. I was upgraded to Y+ on a sale fare. This seems a great route for op ups as premium traffic is light and they appear to oversell Y.

Now you've tempted me, I'm booked in J on this flight next week. Have submitted a points upgrade request to F. Decisions, decisions should I cancel request and gamble on an op-up? Wait and see what loads look like next week ?

I think that J to F would be the least likely to occur on the route. J still wasn't quite full when I travelled but Y and W were 100% full.

J is chockers as per EF on my flight( sorry not clever enough to cut and paste on my iPad ) but as I have the points, I'm going to go with the upgrade request ;)

Once again upgraded joburg to sydney, that means both ways without using points. 3 out of 4 trips upgraded from business to first in the last month

Bit slow in posting sorry...

First ever OP-UP (now I can stop whinging to my clients who get op-up'd that I never have).

11 AUG - QF15 BNE-LAX

Both myself and my Dad who I had travelling with me were upgrades from Y+ to J (both of us are SG).

Wasn't much of an upgrade given the Y+ on that service utilises skybeds but was nice to be upstairs and have a nice pair of pj's to wear.

Was more just a nice feeling to finally get one...alot of my travel is AD, so don't often get it.

The Op-Up thread

Upgrade request came through :) pre-allocated 1A. V happy princess.

I couldn't find a points upgrade thread. If anyone is interested I requested my upgrade about 3 weeks prior to flight. Was booked in D class. Sat in 1K. First was full, flight "overbooked" as per CSM. Managed to sneak a peak at the manifest in 1st galley, mainly OWE, 1x SG, 2 passengers no status. Looks like QF 29 is a good choice for either points upgrade or op-up.
