The Operational Upgrade Thread

Just checked in SYD-CBR, an op up there as well. Love school holidays and loyalty.

Wow, an op-up on a CBR route. Most of the time when I do that route in Y I'm sitting next to a CL so have always figured there's no chance :)

Had to endure J USA - Australia instead of PE. Thanks Qantas.

Got a laugh out of the guy at the gate. Some plonker 2 people before me asked him if an upgrade was available. His reply "We prioritise them based on Frequent Flyer status if they are available". I then arrive at the gate. He hands me my new boarding pass and said "We've had to change your seat. Hope you're ok with that".

Op-Up SYD-BRI on Sunday 10 Jul 1105 service...Y to J cabin... Flight was chockers..

Funny thing happened on Wed 13 Jul.. SIN to SYD on QF6.. Booked in Y+.. I knew the flight was "heavily booked" and was hoping for an Op-Up.. none came my way.. Then noticed two WPs Op-up straight from Y to J.. I know this because I know one of those WP

Felt a little cheated.:(. As I would have thought they will Op-Up Y+ to J and then Y o Y+..

Guess it is easier for them to change 1 (or in this case 2 BPs) then process two separate Op-Ups..

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this as well..?

I know for sure that BA follows one class to next Op-Up...

Yes I have had this as well even when I requested a points upgrade from Y+ to J no luck but 2 people from Y to J got their upgrades granted. (we were all SG at the time)

How recent was this?

Maybe Qantas have indeed begun to use PCV rather than booking class in prioritising upgrades within status levels ... :-|

Pardon my ignornance.. what is PCV??

BTW, one of my colleague (WP) experienced similar 2 weeks ago on SYD-LA on QF107... He was booked in Y (Red e deal) and got Op-up to J... and a business partner (also WP) in Y+.. no Op-Up.

At checkk-in the staff told him " It's complimentary Upgrade for our special customers.."

Must have been around October last year...

One thing I forgot to mention is that I had a Special Meal Requested.. Have read in this forum that having a special meal request does affect your chances of Op-Up... so that may have been the case..

Waiting in the lounge at NRT.

Got upgraded from economy to business on check-in.

The seat selection tool stopped working for me this morning - I don't know if this is a coincidence or not.

I called Qantas and the best window seat they could give me was in 60 something.

Would have been happy with premium economy. Feeling the love from Qantas right now.

:p

There aint a spare seat showing on that aircraft tonight; every seat is showing allocated - first time I can remember expert flyer showing that on a 744.

I have had an op-up from economy to business bypassing premium economy. Nice....

As an aside but sort of on topic QF now permit fares booked in classes N, O, E & Q to be used for ODU's which can be done at airport kiosks on the day. I'm assuming it can also be done several days prior to travel also but YMMV.

Redemptions booking in X class can't be done at the kiosks but can be requested in the QP.

Requires U class to be available at the time of request and cannot be done within 24 hours of the schedule departure time of the domestic flight.

X class (award economy) should not be upgradeable with points at all. Neither as a standard upgrade nor an ODU:
'Restricted Fare' means
(a) for international travel, any Qantas international fare ticketed in E, N, O, P, Q, U, X or Z booking classes, which includes all Classic Awards, some Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Awards and some Qantas Red e-Deals; and
(b) for domestic travel, any Qantas domestic Classic Award fare ticketed in the X booking class.

I have been QF WP for a year now and to date have not received an Op-Up. :( Best I have had for my trouble is an exit row seat.

A QP Officer in BNE told me that if the "X" class fare was a points & pay situation then UPGs could be requested in the Club but you couldn't do it at a kiosk. This is only when a portion of the airfare is paid for ie you cannot just pay for the taxes.
