The Operational Upgrade Thread

Got a Y to Y+ Upgrade on QF 94 yesterday.

2 seats myself and my father inlaw on YASA's

Much appreciated!

Scored upgrades Jakarta/Singapore CX736 & Singapore/Bangkok CX712
today for self & wife to Business. Travelling on cheapo economy tickets.

Had a few problems obtaining access to Skyview lounge on Singapore. Lady at Cathay desk reckoned only myself could access the lounge as OW Sapphire. Took a screenshot of the guest rights at one of the internet kiosks at Changi and is now fixed.

This is an old issue with Cathay.. I have had issues in HK, Tapei and Kaoshiung (Flying DragonAir) to take guest in even as WP.. It is very staff dependent, sometimes they let me in, sometimes they don't and are rude about it as well...

PS: BTW, nice op-up for you and your wife..:)

Why did you have troubles in SIN, if you got J upgrades then surely the BPs at SIN would have been all that was needed?

Received a lounge invitation at the transit desk, boarding pass is not suffice apparently. Didnt attempt entry with boarding passes only.

I've always been asked for the invitation but it's never stopped access.

Got an op-up on QF 9 this week J->F. 2nd upgrade in 4 years. Running at 1.5% upgrade rate currently. Still on track to drop QF unless it hits 10% by year end.

CX always seem to print out these invitations. I guess it is supposed to streamline the access process, but in the end I have had no trouble gaining access without one, although the process takes slightly longer as they ask for your card and BP, then copy down your details.

See ya! And thanks for the fish.

I went into the Skyview Lounge last week on a QF boarding pass and they asked for a lounge invitation. I said that I got the boarding passes in TPE that morning and they did not issue a lounge invitation. They asked me to go to the QF lounge. I politely said no, and that I want to stay in SKyview Lounge for now. She went back to the desk but they had no option other than to let me stay.

 Please don't tell me you actually like the Skyview lounge better than QF first lounge

Hope you had a short connection to another CX flight

Yes I actually do like the Skyview Lounge over the QF Lounges.

The Skyview Lounge has much better views and food choices over both QF Lounges and to be honest the alcohol does not matter to me as long as they have some beer and vodka and orange. Also the QF First Lounge only has 5 desktops which are taken up very quickly if you are not one of the first there.

I only spent ~30 minutes in Skyview Lounge anyway as it was close to the CX gate I arrived and then spent ~5 hours in the QF First Lounge. Believe me when I say I was extremely bored after the first hour or so in the QF First Loune. I should have gone for a walk around the terminals instead to break up the time.

QF7 Syd-DFW 1st JulyI was chuffed to have an economy booking in a PE seat. I was stressed when my BP failed, fearing a move to middle seat somewhere in Y. Fortunately I was lucky and it was an op up to actual premium economy - seated in the business seat, so very nice, especially given it is a long flight to begin with and on top of that it took off an hour late.It certainly made the effort of getting gold worthwhile just from just this one op up (and I will be plat upon reaching australia again if all goes to plan with my yup flights while over here).

I've been wondering what op-ups will be like on this route.

I'm flying on QF7 in a month from now (Y booking, but PE exit row 36J). On my flight J is all 9, but W0 and the only Y classes with availability are Y9 B9 H9. I thought of putting in a points upgrade request, but I'm happy with PE exit row anyway. If the upgrade gods happen to smile down on me then so be it :)

QF8 a week later seems very lightly loaded though so I doubt there'll be many (if any) magical beeps. E/F showing 9 in all classes except for O7. There's also 6 economy award seats, and only 60 seats have actually been selected in the entire aircraft including my 36J again :)

That's a very fortunate upgrade on QF29. Well done! Hope you enjoyed it.

Melb to Bne, op up times 4 for me, wife and kids to row 1 in j. Multiple kudos to qantas, made the family slightly forgive the hours I spend in the air and away.

The sky is falling.... the sky is falling....

First op-up in ~1 year on yesterdays SYD-BNE flight.

- OLCI at T-20 hours and allocated 5D
- NGCI (used for first time and would not print bag tag) and printed boarding pass for 4F
- Business class check-in asked for cardboard boarding pass and when I walked away saw that it had 2A and not 4F. Was just about to go back when I realised it was business class....

There were 3 people behind me in the aerobridge and 2 of them had an op-up as well. A Gold and a Platinum.

Am I the only one getting the impression that there has been a fair few OP-UPs on QF lately?
