The Operational Upgrade Thread

SYD-SFO 14 OCT. Was booked in Y+ seats sold as Y. When asking for a row change (to the exit row in 36 in Y+) I was told "but you've already been upgraded" and was presented with BP for row 25 (Y+ sold in J Seats).

Apparently SG was also enough for that. WP on the LAX-MEL on the 22nd was not sufficient for any bump (mind you, the flight was heaving). Were only 2 other WP's in the Y+ cabin that I could see (based on the CSM coming and welcoming WP's and offering express cards).

Surely there's a mathematical nerd (genius) on the board who could work out the equation involved in an up-grade.

quite simple:
If Passengers checked into your cabin > available seats = upgrade pax.

Op-up BNE-SYD earlier this month to make 3 domestic op-ups in a row.

And then today another op-up SYD-BNE on a 734 from 4C to 2D.

Only a half-op-up:

QF64 JNB-SYD on 21/10: flight was sold in two classes (Y and J) but was operated with four class (F/J/Y+/Y) equipment. I had a Y booking, but I sat in Y+, first row. Service was still Y standard, of course.

Flew SYD-SFO-SYD on UA last week using a cheap (AUD 1000) K class economy ticket.

Got op up'd to C both ways. This was because both flights were oversold in economy (quite usual at the moment), so they try and solve the problem by pushing people like me (1K) into business class.

Sure beats the heck out of flying sardine class, and UA's new business class is quite nice.

what seats do they have in UA these days, thinking of using them at xmas. cheers:?:

Ahh... see you assume it is an analytical equation, it is not.

Being a stochastic process with decision factors in it and multiple actors no sensible equation exists (like an equation governing the outcome of rolling six six sided dice... to many variables)

However what can be examines is a set of statistics and correlations. And the uncertainty governing them.

Cheers (from the Mel Int J lounge..)

My thoughts exactly :!:

I got a 5-second opup to J from LAX-MEL.

Then a real upgrade to wHY+, on Tuesday 03 November. Complete upgrade with wHY+ service.

Got another op-up yesterday SYD-MEL 1830hrs.

Checked E/F earlier in the day and saw no Y and 9 J seats. Checked again in lounge and 2 J left.

Got the magical beep upon boarding. Continues my good run this year.

A really crazy op-up BNE-SYD Christmas Eve after my flight was cancelled and put on earlier flight and then given boarding pass for business class.

Even better got another op up this morning from business for First on CX 747 HKG-MNL. Went from 81K (upper deck) to 2A.

Why is that really crazy - you would be among the "highest ranking" FFs on your original flight, why wouldnt they put you in J?

Congrats on the 81 --> 2, nice.

Forgot about this thread.

Latest op-up was on QF133 MEL-AKL.

After a rather rushed morning in MEL trying to make it to the F lounge in early afternoon, I rocked up to the F check-in.

Lady behind counter: (after the greetings) "Going to Singapore?"
Me: "No...ummm...Auckland today."
Lady: "Oh OK, the 4:10 departure..."
Me: "Aaah, no, the last one, 133"
Lady: "Ah yes. Passport please."

A quick handover and scan and my details and gold wallet were found. It was then a surprise as my bags were being handled and tagged that I had been op-upped to J.

4C to 2D - op-up from Red e-Deal (N).

Ah could possibly have something to do with the old JohnK jinx.

It is getting real funny. I specifically picked flights on the 744's to have a chance at an op-up to First Class. Got to the boarding gate in MNL and they manually cross off seq #'s and when she saw my beautiful business class boarding pass scribbled off the 81K and wrote 4D in pen. So no First Class boarding pass but still sat in the suite.

So 2 op-ups to First in the one day and my next flight HKG-TPE was supposed to be a 744 as well but has been substituted with an A330 or B773 as I had 86K and now have 16K.

Well over xmas period I flew SIN-ADL-MEL then MEL-SYD-CGK ... and scored on op up on one sector :p Unfortunately the shortest sector ADL-MEL :( Better than nothing I guess - but I did note both the SIN-ADL and SYD-CGK flights were all Y0 and J>5 several hours b4 departure, so don't know if the upgrade gods smiled or frowned on me. Nevertheless SIN-ADL came with one of the few empty Y seats on the plane next to me so happy with that.

Never had one. But I've only done around 100QF flights since l've been with them, which is nothing compared to some people on this board.
