I scored a double whammy to LAX last week on QF! Got an upgrade at the gate from Y to Y+ but when I got to the seat it had a faulty back and despite the engineers trying to fix it, they could not sort it out. PE was full, so got sent to the J cabin - woopeee!
Then coming home yesterday, they wanted my seat so a family of 5 could sit together (upper deck bulkhead Y), so I was moved to a PE bulkhead and enjoyed all the trimmings.

This is actually more of an operational sort of sideways than upgrade:shock:

Ba 15 SIN-SYD early check-in (Note: early check-in closes roughly 3 hours before flight and normal check-in starts at about 2 hours)

Called to desk in lounge. Asked if I would please move to one of the exit row seats (which BA charges for if selected in advance) in the Y+ cabin from my aisle seat. They wanted to seat a couple together. Turned out my seat mate in the exit row also accepted the same request.

Speculation: BA was taking paid uprgades at check-in from Y to Y+, as the Y+ cabin was not full the last I checked a couple of days before flight. It was full for the flight.

Anyway, unlimited leg room is always welcome, even if the under seat storage goes away.

22/12/13 Four Pax all on the same PNR. YVR to JFK. CX888 PE to J. Very happy when upgraded at check in. Y oversold so rolled us forward. I had been watching expert flyer in the days leading up to the flight and thought we had a good chance.
Managed to get a bit of sleep in the short 4.5 hour red eye flight. We had one QF WP, one QF SG and one Marco Polo gold in our party so status must have helped.

Upgraded from PE to J on QF51 Bri to SIN.
Y over sold so many were rolled over. A few WP and SG as well.
in my case I know was upgraded almost 24 hours before the flight but my WP travel companion was upgraded on check in and another SG I knew on the flight, was upgraded at the gate.
no such luck on return as flight was full even J.

My flight is sold out tomorrow for per-sin nothing in Y Or J. No upgrade yet But I don't like my chances anyway tomorrow.

Hey, you'll be on the same flight as my parents. Knew they shouldn't have booked J at this time of year, probably would have got an op up or points upgrade as WP...

Regrade to business class from premium economy for BNE-SIN today.

That is now both legs of an ex-SIN booking upgraded.

Points upgrade would have gone without a hitch! As They were oversold weeks ago with heaps of spots in J.

It's "upgrade season", a time when even for PS, the PCV's can often bubble to the top.

Family is missing and bags need to be off loaded. Should I ask for second bubbles?

mel to dps with VA last Tues at check in my son was offered exit seat but then looked at the rest of our family and moved us to business to which I inquired what would the cost be but at quick punch to my back from my wife I was informed that the flight was empty and flight staff would prefer people to the front of plane true to form plane was 1/4 full of pax I always live for this

Got some xmas love from EK for the first time from CDG to DXB A380 on the 20th.....unfortunately it didn't extend all the way to Melbourne but still with no PE on EK the jump from Y to J was a treat and not expected when flying on EK metal.

I had this also! Got upgraded from DXB to CDG. Was nice. J cabin was full. Was my first EK flight and I am only gold, so I was pretty stoked! The lounge was great.

Had pretty good treatment whilst in Y on the A380 also. CSM introduced themselves and they were quite polite and responsive (but I didn't really ask for anything, I just slept).
