The Operational Upgrade Thread

My partner and I had an op-up on QF824 BNE-DRW last Sunday. I'm WP and she's PS. Was quite surprised as it was my first flight since making Platinum. It was my partner's first time in J so she was definitely happy about the upgrade!

Scott.

Op up from Y to PE on QF10 this morning, for two of us (me WP, my partner is NB). Flight oversold they tell me. Currently enjoying quality lounge time in DBX, having flown in earlier on QF codeshare Emirates flight that was practically empty, we had four seats each to stretch out on.

Upgraded from Y to Y+ on CX 136. I was a bit surprised as the flight loading was light, so I was not expecting an upgrade.

BA continues to treat me very well.
op-up BA 16 (17 Jan) SYD-SIN from Y+ to Business

got boarding pass in PER 16 hours pre-flight much to my (and check-in agent's) surprise.

Curiosity took hold and I looked at availability.
all J = 6
W=3 T=1
Y=3 all other economy = 0

Happily wandering off to the SIN-DO (flyertalk)

Fred

Now here's one for the books. PX800 3/12 from POM to DAU (Daru, Western Province, PNG). Upgraded to Business Class.....on a Dash 8?

Not sure if this was because I joined their frequent flyer program some years ago or because the f87#ers left my bag behind in Sydney on my earlier flight. "No problem sir, we will send it to DAU on the next flight" (which happened to be 5 days later).

OK: so the seat pitch was more than Y, there was a curtain between rows 3 & 4, and I had a different colour headrest cover than those Plebs down the back!

And the meal consisted of a bread roll with some sort of meat (at least I think that was what it was), a piece of lettuce from 2010 and a bit of cucumber.

And the lovely FA personally made me a cup of coffee (in a plastic mug that matched the colour of my headrest). Plus a giant step up from the Airlines PNG Twin Otter!

Oh well, no one else got treated like this so I guess it is...THANK YOU PX

7th Jan 2014 - AA278 YUL-MIA booked whY and the FOUR of us got called to the gate and received OPUP to F :D:D:D

I put it down to a combination of:-

a) SWMBO was seen in the AA system as OWE as her BP was printed with Emerald (she is SG).....this occurred for all 4 flights we took on AA. The system seeing two OWE in a family group dictated that the OPUP would flow our way

b) The atrocious weather battering the East coast of Nth America created an overflow of passengers exiting YUL on any flight they could get on

c) Holiday period - so very few Exec Plats flying on the day

Whatever it was it was graciously received and a very pleasant flight to MIA was had!

Really appreciated leaving -40C and arriving to 20C:cool:

On our return to Oz we received an Op-up from J>F on EK409. That made it in both directions. Maybe I should fly EK more, or perhaps that's just the idea!! Definitely can't complain. Made for a very enjoyable flying experience which I'll have to try and quickly forget prior to the next flight in whY!!

31 December from Auckland to Singapore (SQ286) from Economy to Business (on a 777-300ER with long haul business). First ever with SQ. (Though am a PPS Club Member). Nice 10.5 hour flight, and even managed to have spouse swap with me half way through. Back to Economy with a packed cabin though....

SWMBO and I (both OWE) got Y+ to J upgrades on BA15 SIN-SYD on Sun 26th Jan. I was very pleased to see the upgrade came through when checking in online at T-23 hours. Very nice end to a weekend where we used the BA offer for 2 free night at The Raffles! :)

3 CX flights the last few days....2 upgrades from 3 flights....upgraded routes were HKG-MNL and MNL-HKG both from PE to BUS (1 x 777 and 1 x 747, noting the new CX BUS class (not regional) is miles ahead of the old "coffin" type). I have been upgraded twice before on this route. This time I was single traveller, noting many people in the lounge were called for "new" boarding passes on the return journey....previous upgrades once was single traveller, once as party of 2. Excellent success on this route! Shame no extra SC's

Partner and I got a couple of opups from Y to Y+ for HKG-SGN (at the boarding gate) and SGN-HKG (at check-in) early Feb. Busy Chinese New Year period.

I just got an opuped on EK435 AKL-BNE, Y->J, oversold Y, EK Gold on flexi ticket. My first and couldn't be happier. Was upgraded at the gate, but could have had a call in the lounge as I was listening to my iPod in the lounge.

It was an interesting flight for me that started in Tauranga with my Shuttle - instead of being one of 4-6 people in the shuttle, and only one flying EK, I found myself packed into the shuttle with 12 of us and not a spare seat and all 12 were on EK flights.

Then at the check in, but more so with the lounge angels, there were clearly a lot of novice fliers. One couple who hadn't preselected their seats found it highly offensive and unimaginable that having paid over $10k for Business Class, on the same booking at the same time, that they couldn't be sat next to each other on the flight and someone hadn't done it for them automatically.

This flight I appreciated status, not only with my opt up, but at check in, which was 300+ long for the standard economy lines, no one in the que for the status/Business class. It was the biggest zoo all round I had ever seen in AKL yesterday but still made it from curb to Lounge in 8 minutes. Landing into BNE, from gate to curb in 10 mins.

Damn I hope I can add to this thread. With 8 flights/month BNE-SYD surely the odds will tip in my favour sooner or later-even though it's only domestic I'll be happy.

I seriously doubt it, between Qantas staff and their mates taking the J seats!
Friday night J cabin half full, some dude from the back comes up (silver tags). Sits down for j service before take off.

Lots of kiss kiss on exit

Last Friday week I received a call my flight was delayed ~1 hour and would I want an earlier flight. I chose the flight 30 minutes after my original scheduled departure and now ~30 minute before revised departure. And managed to get 4D as well.

Guested in a friend from work into lounge and also met boomy and we were sitting having a drink and a chat when my name was paged. At this point in time my only thought was they have somehow made a mistake with 4D and wanted to move me to another seat.

Me: "I am JohnK and I was just paged."
Lounge CS: "Yes. There are 2 people wanting to sit together."
Me: (I can see 1C on desk in front of her) "I think you have the wrong person as I am in 4D."
Lounge CS: "You are JohnK?"
Me: "Yes."
Lounge CS: "This is definitely you."
Me: "Have I been upgraded?" (I must have been upgraded but not paged for the upgrade so I take the 1C boarding pass and head back to the table and show my friend from work with a big smile on my face.)
Friend: "This is not you."
Me: "You are right. I think she made a mistake and I had better get back quick before someone takes my 4D."
Lounge CS: "I am really sorry. Here is your new boarding pass."
Me: "Thank you." (She had given me the boarding pass of the guy that wanted to swap seats. I must have been allocated 1D to start with and that was changed to 1C.)
