The Operational Upgrade Thread

If Y was not full. does this qualify as an op-up? Has Qantas started to be a bit more generous with upgrades when J seats are available?

Doubt it, yield management may have thought there might be a need to overbook Y (late connecting flight, last minute flight changes of pax on flex tickets) but maybe that need didn't arise in the end.

Unlike my experience with VA in the past where I got an op-down after receiving an op-up as there were now free seats in Y.grrrr still will never let that one go, how stindgy! At least QF don't rescind opups in my experience

I'd call it an op-up if you got to travel in a higher cabin and hadn't had to use your own points for it.

It could be a sweetener to a recent issue I had which had been quickly resolved but at that time, there was no mention of an upgrade. Maybe they needed some ballast at the front to land the plane. Whatever it was, I am grateful.

Sounds a bit like it, particularly if whY wasn't full.

What was the recent issue? In any case, well done to all!

This op-up was so unexpected I had to share.
Travelling with my 2 teenage boys from DXB to BKK, got op-up'd from Y to J (YES all 3 of us). That in itself is rare as far as I know to have a party of 3 upgraded.

However when we proceeded to the boarding gate from the lounge, we got further Op-up'd to F! All 3 of us!

This flight must have been heavily overbooked, so we thank everyone for showing up ;)

My first time in F and the first time for the boys in anything other than Y.

Double like for this one :)

Welcome to Emirates. BKK flights are often full

Sensational stuff. Your kids won't want to fly whY ever again now. I gather your EK Silver number was in the pnr. Was the booking made directly via the EK website?

Hi Oz,

Yes this was booked directly via emirates website about 5 days before the flight. My FF number was automatically attached to the PNR.

While I have had op-up from Y to J in the past, I didn't expect that with 3 pax on the one PNR it could happen, so I had to make sure the boys knew not to expect the same thing to happen on the way back in Feb. But then again, if it's happened once.... ;)

It's just a pity the the EK tier miles still only count as Y, or am I just being too greedy now!

QF Syd - hkg Y+ to J at T-18 (Y+seat selection disappeared) received new BP at checkin. Myself WP and wife SG)

Good stuff bigfoot786. You're kids are spoilt for life now!!!

How's this for a first world problem...

I told my wife and other kids about the upgrade we got and sent them some of the photos.

My 12 year old, who was not travelling with us says "That's not fair, I've never been in business or first class my WHOLE LIFE"

ROFL

Don't expect for a minute that your child will allow you to forget it in a hurry either! :sly:

I ran into an Aussie couple in Hong Kong (as you always seem to do when overseas), who got the double bump up. They had been to Kenya visiting their daughter and her boyfriend who were volunteering in a medical capacity (we backed away from them - ebola :)) . When they checked in, they were advised that they were being upgraded to J from Y. When they got to the gate, they were issued new boarding passes for F. I can't recall which airline it was (definitely oneworld), but I recall they told me they held no status. They were a lovely couple who were so proud of what their daughter was doing. No hard feelings from me. Well deserved.

QF9 on Thurs 4/12. Beep at the gate, and bump from (points upgraded from Y+) J to F for the three of us for the MEL-DXB leg.

My 8yo now thinks that First Class is nice. Hmmm ...
