The Operational Upgrade Thread

Scored an opup from J to F on EK408 for the KUL-MEL leg a few days ago :-D Was a very nice suprise.... So much caviar :-p

Don't mean to burst your bubble but that route has taken a significant hit on loads so there's plenty of OpUpertunity ;) try SYD-LHR or LAX and recheck the success rate ;)

Just heard from a friend that he got op upped from a red e deal whY to J, skipping W in the process. Route was SYD-NRT

I wonder if the fare code is ever a deciding factor between people of equal status... or whether it is just totally random. For example CX apparently use the lowest sequence (check in) number as a deciding factor..

The fare was a 'S' i think. Lowest of the lowest on sale. Truth to be told he's P1 so wouldn't be surprised.

Checking in at HKG for Qf128 to Sydney. Partner and I are in PE.

Check in agent says PE is oversold and offers us a downgrade to Y for a voucher of fare difference and US$400. We politely declined and suggested we would gladly accept an upgrade to J (we are both WP).

Some time passes with lots of phone calls in mandarin, eventually given BP's for our original seats in PE.

In the lounge we overhear others offered the same thing, one took it the other declined.

At the gate, we and the other decliner get the beep and new boarding passes for J :-)

The guy who took the downgrade had the long walk down the back...

A little while ago now but to keep the thread up to date, SWMBO and I (both WP) upgraded from Y to J on 11/07/14 EK36 NCL-DXB.

Emirates gave us the option to pay for the upgrade at check-in but we declined as we had exit row seats for the 7 hour flight. Glad we kept our money in our pockets as there were J boarding passes waiting for us at the gate.

Thanks for the love EK!

A couple I don't think I've posted here...

Hkg to sin, Qf plat, was upgraded by cx from y to pe. Negligible upgrade really. Put a downer in my mind regarding the product.

BA HAM-LHR, was paged at gate along with others. Given an opup to J. Nice, but BA Euro J always fails to impress...

With Qantas, the fare code is just one of the factors used to generate a PCV. For more on that, search this thread for "Proactive Onload".

Does anyone know on QF PE, if I have a Select on Q meal ordered does that reduce chances of OpUp, or for that matter has anyone had an OpUp from PE to J when a Eat on Q is ordered?

Anecdotally it should have no effect on your chances. Your PE meal may follow you into J, or it may not.

I have a special meal ordered and on the opup I received I was advised 'catering not assured', but it found me anyway.

This trip has been upgrade heaven. Four weeks ago upgrade Y to J Adelaide to Dubai (12 hour flight) when doing checkin.

Last night - Return Dubai - Adelaide we received upgrade at boarding gate, after we'd flown Y Venice to Dubai two hours earlier. Our luggage labels had been changed to priority on arrival in Dubai so it knew before we did.

Feeling the Emirates love right now.
