The Operational Upgrade Thread

Might it be worthwhile to start tracking some of the loads/periods on particular flights for best future planning of travel? EK said my flights above were quiet, but my return would be busy because of Singapore school holidays ( Saturday 31st May to Sunday 29th June) - looks pretty full already - on the BNE-SIN-DXB horrid 777.

I dont know how anyone can catch that BNE departure, its a horrid time. Certainly would want an op up!

I agree however op-ups are rare on EK432/433 as loads are rarely heavy enough to allow for them. I only have ever flown EK433 in J BNE-SIN and elect to fly QF51 over it for Y flights.

My experience has suggested they are hardly rare, with 3 out of 5 in the 12 months ex SIN. Agree 51 is better, however the move back to an A330 and the loss of QF points attractiveness will see me on EY until further notice, ex SIN I am 1 from 1 with them!

A little perspective - I am a self funded WP who has been upgraded three times in dozens of flights. Twice domestically and once internationally - and always on check-in. I had read stories of boarding passes being changed at the gate but it never happened to me. Until yesterday. Flew SYD-HKG yesterday and was upgraded to PE front row very nice on the A380.

The kicker was that the same thing happened to me again going from HKG-JNB only this time it was Cathay from business to first. Two on the same day who would have thought?

I recall once I was upgraded domestically from Y to J after boarding and seating, only to have the CSM come up to me and advise "Mr ComeFlyWithMe, I have a new boarding pass for you sir...". The only problem was my partner sitting beside me who was not upgraded. Suffice to say she wasn't happy but the crew didn't seem to think it was an optional upgrade, so I dutifully accepted and enjoyed J and paid for it at the other end ;)

If you got gastroenteritis would she want it as well?

Getting sick and tired of the SWMBO tantrums. Talk about spoiled rotten.

I forgot to add, last week on the 18th June, I was given an op up from seat 34B to 4K on QF5. Was booked revenue T. I wonder if me getting from zilch to WP within the span of 7 months had anything to do with my PCV

Flying SIN-DXB-CDG on Tuesday with Emirates.

Just noticed this tucked away at the bottom of my itinerary...

Thoughts?

Got an upgrade to J on checking last Monday on QF81 to Singapore, first international free upgrade, also got my requested upgrade to J on the return leg on QF6 on Friday night, wonder if the upgrade request had anything to do with getting the free one.

Last night - EK Adelaide to Dubai. Discount economy to J. Very much appreciated for a 13 hour night flight for a booking made when WP but recently down to Gold. First night of school holidays so maybe economy overbooked? Although the lovely crew did come and greet former WP.

Sounds like you didn't need to upgrade with points after all :)

Another Op Up for me tonight, booked R to J. QF6. Now this makes the op up ratio for me ever since obtaining WP on international flights (non trans Tasman) to be 100%

i was always wondering if my PCV was that high to warrant an op up 10 hours before the flight was supposed to depart!

Don't mean to burst your bubble but that route has taken a significant hit on loads so there's plenty of OpUpertunity ;) try SYD-LHR or LAX and recheck the success rate ;)
