The Operational Upgrade Thread

Just checked in for my domestic leg to sydney for my flight to San Fran and found my SYD-SFO (QF73) had been upgraded from economy. Only problem is my partners ticket wasn't linked to mine so she didnt get the same treatment.

First time I've ever had to ask to be moved back down the plane (and hopefully the last!)
 
Flight to HEL

Wife and I checking in at Kansai for Finnair to Helsinki and on to Istanbul in early April. The lady at checkin gave us upgrades to J for this long daylight flight. Middle seats, rather than window, but I wasn't complaining. Brand new equipment and I even managed to get some fully-flat sleep.
 
My best op-up was SYD-JFK, booked in discount Y, op-up to F thankyou very much :p

That kind of op-up only comes when you are travelling with a CIP :cool:

Unfortunately the relationship dissolved, as did the op-ups :( In recent times, on school holidays I had my first non-CIP op-up in years, BNE-SYD, again discount Y.
 
I was upgraded Economy (Lowest Fare) to Premium Economy on both legs of my VAustralia flights last month. :D

I'm a silver member with Velocity and was travelling alone and at the check in counter 3.5 hrs before each flight.
 
Over 10 years ago I flew with Air NZ from SYD-LAX return (my first overseas flight). On the way back I was on a 747 and the 2nd last row at the back (3-4-3 configuration I think). I was on the aisle seat and there was a young lady who had who leg in plaster stretched out in the other 3 seats. From the moment I sat down she did nothing but moan and whinge that she was told that she could have the 4 seats to herself (due to her injury). The FA's and eventually the CSM were trying to calm her down, but she kept on raving on abouth how "the person at the call centre guaranteed I'd have 4 seats to myself" blah blah blah.... I just sat there quietly - minding my own business when finally one of the FA's approached me and asked would I mind moving. Not a problem at all... but I would like an aisle seat. So she marched me up to Business Class! I had the aisle seat alright!!! How good is this I thought! 14hours in Business Class. A few hours later I went back to row 188 (well, not quite..) and retreived my bag from the locker - and guess who was NOT impressed when i told her I had been bumped to Business Class and not her. The morale is - be accommodating and in this case, I was rewarded! I do remember a FA telling me that "technically" they should of returned me to my original seat prior to landing (manifest reasons) - but they were good enough to let me see the entire trip through in Business. Ofocurse nothing like this has EVER happended since, but it does go to prove that if you!re happy to be flexible then you might end up with a surprise.:p
 
First op-up for a while this morning, after three in a row (all domestic SYD-BNE or BNE-SYD) last year sometime! (I don't know how that happened!)

First post in a long while.

Partner and I travelling LAX-SYD on QF12 yesterday, op-upped from Y to Y+ (We are both SG). Heard other PAX had been called by QF during the week to reschedule their flight to SYD. First time in Y+ on the A380 and was very impressed.
 
My flight, departing in 4 hours, shows this loading:

J9 D2 I2 Y1 B1 H1 K1 M0 L0 VC SC NC QC OC XC E0

I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but chances look good!:)
 
My flight this afternoon was showing all the zeros, was happily OLCI'd last night into 23A, thought I would have another look at T-3 hours and the seat map shows the Y cabin but BP now says 1F :D

It was a points+pay booking which was ticketed as an ASA!
 
It's a 763, so plenty of op-up capacity. Given there's only the one direct flight is a little internationalish in Yield Management so your chances are slightly better than average for most domestic flights. (Also, the CNE-SYD and CNS-BNE re-route options seem just as heavily sold in economy, so little relief for QF there).
 
CNS was nuts earlier in the week with families everywhere, same for DRW, love school holidays when it comes to OP UPs. I think the ratio of kids to adults in the CNS QP on Wednesday night was 1:1.

And I get to HKG from DElhi about 75 minutes before departure... keeping my fingers crossed!
 
Well the Altea gods were not smiling on me today :(

I left my boarding cards with the lounge staff who promised to see "what [they] can do". Alas, no luck.

And the crammed flight was no fun either - about 12 babies crying the entire way. It was just barely tolerable, even in a bulkhead with QC3s.

Just have to hang out for our DONE4, with guaranteed J seats :)
 
Yay!

Just got op-up'd CNS-SYD.

Had re-selected 4D at T-80 as per serfty's and JohnK's suggestion.

J2 Y0 at T-48, J0 Y0 at T-24.

Then at T-8, E/F suddenly showed my seat as available. Jumped on QF to check but MMB was still showing 4D, tried OLCI, still had me at 4D even though E/F had the seat vacant.

Sure enough at check-in, "...oh, and you've been upgraded to SYD" :)

Now just to grab some eggs benedict and a massage in the F lounge before enjoying the comforts of Y to AKL ;)
 
Copped the Y to Y+ treatment SIN-SYD QF32 a few weeks back.

Flight was delayed by 21hrs, so I have a suspicion that QF bumped all SGs to Y+ and WPs to J as a sign of good will. :D

Am looking at a DONE4 in mid-Sep on QF31 (A380) and a number of does are F0 W0
 
The op-up gods were smiling on me again this morning, QF524 SYD-BNE.
Moved from 4A to 1F at the gate.

I should have been on QF2220/QF510 this morning on my commute WGA-SYD-BNE, but QF2220 was cancelled due to fog last night (no final flight from SYD, so no aircraft to operate it).

Instead I ended up flying QF2222/QF524, and the upgrade (though on such a short flight) was very much appreciated.

Here's hoping I'm still in favour with the op-up gods in December/January when Mrs MatF and I go to Europe :)
