The Planespotting/General AV Geek Thread

Looking down on the Tom Bradley International Terminal 28 November 2013 as we're airborne on AA to HNL.

Anyone who's had an early arrival into LAX will recognise the usual suspects whose passengers you want to desperately be ahead of in the immigration queue.

always the blue one. Never get behind the pax from the blue plane.

Perhaps Vlad does not realise he is flying over Australia, no need for stealth over here. He may have been worried about being shot down, after all shooting down planes is a national sport in Russia and adjacent territories under Russian control

If anyone is in Brisbane and has a little spare time early tomorrow (Sunday) and wants a bit of serious 'AV Geeking' it's worth a drive around BNE
I'd suggest,-
Start up the Dryandra Rd. up near Acacia St. (Russians)
Then come back down Dryandra Rd. and take the Airport Dr. exit on the round about .....then take the exist signed posted 'VA Valet Parking' (US)
Head back on to Airport Dr, and take the Int. terminal exit ...head up the ramp to the departure drop off level for a good view from the top, at the far end, of a lot of the G20 fleet. BTW- Not a hint of extra security around that area.
Come down the ramp and then take Qantas Dr .... you can divert down a few areas / side streets off Qantas Dr (mixture of many aircraft from all over the world)
Then turn left on to Litsea St. - Great view of two Japan 747's in single file , their 'red dot' tails really catch your eye.... along with other aircraft.
Turn right on Eucalyptus Dr. then left (no option) on to Lomanda Dr. towards the old Int. terminal area (about 5 aircraft there with Suadi aircraft nice and close ...the 747SP looks great)

Worth an early morning drive........but it would need to be early before major road closures for the on mass exit motorcades on Sunday night. The understanding is all bar two heads of state are departing Sunday night so there will be a lot of land side and air side activity.

Sights not likely to be seen for a long time in this neck of the woods. Looks like BNE / ASA have done a good job of running the event on their side plus keeping the regular show on the road so far.

Hi all, I'm reasonably new to the forums and here's my first contribution of interesting aviation photos:

That's the 757 is it? I was led to believe that the two 742s always fly together and Obama definitely got off one in Brisbane so does this mean there's two 742s, this 757 as well as the rest of US AF aircraft in Brisbane at the moment. Or maybe the 757 is replacing the second 742?

There are two 757 aircraft at BNE as well as some other US Air Force equipment - For those who know BNE they are standing not to far from the VA satellite arm of the domestic terminal .....Actually if you take the road to the VA Valet Parking area off Airport Drive you can get a very good view of these two aircraft. Obama's aircraft, AF1, landed at Amberley Air Force Base not BNE and remains there. He transferred to Victoria Park near the Royal Brisbane Hospital via Helicopter then motorcade to the Marriot in the CBD. Unsure if there is a second 747 in the area but it is not at BNE that's for sure.

The VC25s don't travel in pairs, however there will always been a NEACP or Nightwatch aircraft close, in this case the E4 is at Richmond I believe.

Arrived in AKL on Friday afternoon, saw both Germany and Canada here. Even got downgraded at my hotel as the Canadians had more people than planned.

Remember folks, always blame Canada...... ;)

Fair enough. I heard that they did on a doco but it may be wrong.

Flying the President around must cost a mint!

I cant disclose a whole hell of a lot but had the wonderful opportunity to drive airside BNE this evening delivering one of the 35 internationally protected persons attending the G20 summit to the steps of their plane. The metal looked just as incredible up close as well :D
