The Planespotting/General AV Geek Thread

Imagine if Qantas could get one of these old birds for a nostalgic run around the country.
It would be a sell out!

AA runs a DC-3 around the US every now and then. I hear it's not the easiest flight to get on.

I do believe QF still have some involvement if not 100% ownership in VH-AES, the old TAA DC3 that was restored to flying condition after years of being a gate guard at Tulla.

Doesn't Qantas Ambassador John Travolta have something nostalgic done up in Qantas colours?

John Travolta has a fully operational Qantas B707 in Qantas colours. It visits Australia quite often

Incidentally there is a B707 on display at Longreach however unfortunately internally it is fitted out as a Sheik's airborne palace.

Can anyone identify this aircraft at Port Harcourt in 1956 carrying my mother?. Many years before my birth I hasten to add!

Not a great image ..... but on the Ansett nostalgia line ...anyone recall this faithful day at Mascot. I was on route to the airport to catch a mid afternoon Ansett domestic flight to BNE, needless to say I didn't have to rush as thing got a bit chaotic that afternoon - the danishes in the Golden Wing Lounge took a hammering that day. There wasn't to much height to the surrounding buildings then and the elevated tail really did stand out.
Surprised it is now more than 20 years ago. It was 19 / 10 / 1994 around lunch time. AH-INH was on a Sydney to Osaka flight but returned to SYD about an hour into the flight due to an engine issue ..... Nose wheel did not extend .... here's the link to the incident report , -https://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/investigation_reports/1994/aair/pdf/aair199403038_001.pdf

Yes I was on duty at Sydney airport that day. Was certainly an interesting afternoon. It really made the airport authorities strengthen their contingency planning after that incident. I have some photos I'll see if I can find and post.
