The Qantas new bag tag test - how long will they last?

I have used my Q Bag Tag 10-20 times, and it hasen't suffered any damage, and my bag arrived everytime. Suprisingly, most of the time it has been one of the first bags out. Particually when arriving into BNE.

I do hope this continues, not having to wait 20-40mins (Mostly in MEL) is a great benefit for me, and many otheres.

Well, I'm not impressed.

J class, PG members. Five bags. Brisbane arrival (ex-MEL). Sunday mid afternoon. Not busy.

First bag was 5th out (great!) then waited for
- mid pack
- 5th last
- 3rd last
- last

:evil::evil::evil::evil:

(I suppose I should be thankful the arrived at all).

Seriously, if they cant get the J bags out first, what's the point of offering the service.

And so abusing the baggage service staff, who are not the ramp staff who unload/load the bags is the way to go?

You do know that baggage services has nothing to do with when bags come off the aircraft and onto the belt. Ever thought it maybe be due to the airport infrastructure?

Who knows, it may get better when JQ move to T5.

Who said anything about abusing anyone?
I advise them what flight I arrived on and when I can expect my luggage, and let them know that I am not satisfied with the service. Its funny that you mention JQ, as half the time the excuse given is that the baggage handlers are busy offloaded a JQ flight.
If baggage services have nothing to do with when the bags are delivered, then who do you suggest I contact? I would have thought they would be best positioned to assist with baggage related issues.
As for infrastructure, the thought hadn't actually occurred to me, but I still hold that unfortunately, and excuse my rudeness, it is not my problem. QF are a full service airline who need to make sure that every aspect of their "service" is up to scratch. If they need more space, build it. If they need more staff, hire them, If they need more equipment, buy it. Whatever it is that they need to fulfill the promises and expectations of their "valued" customers, it is up to them to make sure they have it, and if they dont, to get it. It is not my job, nor my place to tell them how to run their airline, but nor am I willing to continue paying a premium to fly QF and have them not deliver what they promise! I understand that things happen from time to time, but it seems that more and more, this is becoming the rule rather than the exception!

I don't know much about airports, but I think this could be the problem...

Now a days, baggage is an extra charge (Excl QF), more and more passengers try and take everything onboard in the need to avoid the $10-$15 required. Overall, this causes less baggage in the System, there isn't much point hiring the same ammount of people, so staff have been cut significantly. Then you get a Qantas flight, full of baggage, and the little staff they have struggle to unload the aircraft as fast.

I could be completeley wrong, but after watching baggage handlers from time to time, I've noticed as little as three unloading a whole 737... Compared to 5-7 a year or two ago.

On the note of baggage handlers, I've watched many times, the "I can throw it in the hold from here" game. I'm tempted to bang on the glass and shout at them.

IMO, MEL, is by far the worst baggage collection I have ever delt with. 45mins is NOT an acceptable time to wait for a bag, particually when your flight wasen't much more than that.

Liam.

I'm not disagreeing with you but offering a positive experience as a balance. CBR-MEL 5th April. We arrived at the gate 15 min early, I walked out and bought my Skybus ticket, walked back inside and collected my bag. The bag was about 10th out so J and/or WP priority worked. I then jumped on the Skybus and we were underway a minute or so before the aircraft was due at the gate.

Anyway we are digressing OT here. :(

I have to agree with you, there are times where baggage arrives on time, I'm not sure what makes a flight's baggage on time or not....

Maybe a new threat is in order?

Having a Poll with which airport is the worst wouldn't be a bad idea...

Maybe a new threat is in order?

Not sure who to threaten ;)

I remember from working at the airport in Brussels that soooooo many things can go wrong and cause delays in the bags getting to the belt. Plane 10 mins late and the ground crew being dispatched to different aircraft resulting in another crew having to do this flight. Not enough trolleys behind the pulley. The actual belts allocation...

I consider myself to be very lucky with luggage. Never really had to wait in Sydney or Melbourne. Couple of long waits and luggage not showing up at all overseas but not consistent.

I used NGCI for my checked bag today; normally only travel with hand lugggage. Found the whole process a little confusing and grabbed a passing QF CSA for help. Very helpful but after several tries, the machine would not recognise my tag. She eventually gave up, and led me to aonther check in machine where the tag was recognised straight away. My bag (Syd-Adl) was among the first 5 to arrive on the carousel in ADL:mrgreen:

Not sure if this the correct thread but wondering if anyone else is having troubles when checking in bags with the tags having then machine 'read ' them?
It seems everytime recently when I have needed to take a bag that the machine has struggled to read it, yesterday a Customer Rep told me I should just go straight to the service desk and check in there. They could read the tag straight away!
They then told me that I should call FF and request new tags to be sent as these ones must be faulty - called told it was an 8 week wait and they would send. I would think that they must be aware of the numbers at the various levels and would have sufficient of a new product launch. I was also told not to worry about posting it back but just hand in at the airport sometime??
Do I need to hadn it in to get the replacement sent - do QF even want people using this system?

Interested in others thoughts....

Slightly O/T but I still did not my first NGCI kit... So I think the planning of the distribution mustn't be too well thought out

I have a few SYD-Europe + side trips next month and will use the new tags (and bring the old ones, just in case). I'll report back...

1 tag gone (from 2 supplied in the pack)

1 tag used for;
2 SYD-BNE vv
1 BNE-ROK vv
1 BUD-GOT vv

2 tags used for
1 SYD-SIN-LHR-BUD (one way)

So, l guess l have to buy another one?

The QF website states; Q Bag Tags
Q Bag Tags will not be replaced due to fair wear and tear.

What is fair wear and tear? Can someone define this? It has to be more than 11 sectors?

My tag was unable to be read. It happens so wasn't worried. So off I went to the desk who told me I should be using the tag device. (And not wasting their time)

Success! On arrival my tag was missing.

If it completely disappeared I wouldn't call that fair wear and tear. Was it relatively undamaged when you last saw it? If so, then there was a catastrophic failure of the elastic - not fair wear and tear for mine. Otherwise, if it just disappeared then it is lost or stolen and wear and tear doesn't come into it.
