The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Bit of a random question. Can you use the QF airside transfer bus if you haven't had a connecting international/domestic flight.

Eg. I stay at the Rydges but have a domestic flight. Can I go to the T1 domestic check-in and drop my bags there and take the bus across to the domestic terminal. I'd have a valid domestic boarding pass.

Yes, I believe you can.
Conversely, if I check-in online for an international flight and HLO. Could I enter through the domestic terminal and take the bus across to T1?
As long as it's for a QF or partner flight they accept for transfer I say yes.

Nope, they wouldn't have access - specially for a function like that abd prob refer to gate staff. Best to sort that at check in ratger tgan waiting for liunge (even if connecting in SYD you still would pass by check in and as WP can use MH J check in of course)
Thanks @RichardMEL I will check at MH check in at SYD. I was hoping that the $ seats will be made free when check in opens (opened last night 2200 hours) but I was incorrect.

Nicer to take train IMO.

I used to call MH for seating changes directly. It's been a long time since I flew Y on MH, but back then they were always happy to put me wherever I wanted, as a OWE pax.

Cheers,
Matt.

Aus allows anyone to enter the dom terminals (just need dom sec screened), and go up to gate, so you could enter SYD QF T3 as if you had a QFd flight, then ... go to gate 15 as if you came from a QFd flight, and go across to T1 at SYD, by the QF bus.
Only your int BP is scanned at gate 15.
---
Coming back, if your next flight is QFd, T1 to T3, you can do same.
But they need your next flight BP tho.
So you cant use the transfer bus as your "shuttle".

Instead of a question, it's a 'good to know' thing: QF gift vouchers issued >12 months ago need to be redeemed through the call centre only.

I attempted to redeem GV's which were purchased in March 2022 but after the payment page online, they ended up in an error and no valid flight bookings were created. I called today and the agent had a similar error after submitting the payment.

--> The reason is very logical now that I heard it, just didn't gather it earlier: when a GV is issued, a "ghost" flight is attached to the PNR. However, that "booking" is valid for 12 months only and the system drops the PNR off at the end of the period. After that, you need to call in and the agent will issue a new PNR to replace the original GV.

Travelling on NZ codeshare flight operated by QF (QF Link) domestically. Will I get QF lounge access by QF status? Confident that when flying out of AU and NZ on NZ codeshare on NZ metal I will get access to NZ lounges based on KrisFlyer status. Unsure of return domestic connection.

Quick question:
I am trying to book some rewards seats. I see that the Premium economy is 115700pts but when I select the flight it shows its 24300 for 2 people (121500pts). Where is this difference coming from?
Could this come from the infant? Is there away to pay those taxes with cash?

I'm trying to figure out the bassinet seats on QF51 (BNE-SIN). When doing a dummy booking on QF site for the date I want, it gives me this seat map. But Aerolopa and QF's own seat maps all have the Y cabin starting from row 23 (a selected A333's from 31). So, which type is the one the booking system shows???

What’s your date of travel?

Hello everyone, newb question

Someone I know got upgraded on their recent DEL-MEL. This was a ticket booked by the office TA. There was a entry on the BP "Thank you for your loyalty. Enjoy the upgrade". Can the TA see this entry somewhere on the PNR?

Hi all! Long time reader, first time poster. (Apparently my account is over 10 years old but I forgot about it!)

I've read a few things about QC and using AA's Admirals Club lounges in the US but I was curious if anyone was aware if it worked from Australia?

As an example if you booked AA72 in Y, would you be able to use the QF SYD lounge?

On the flip side, my understanding of the QC rules is that if you were flying AA73 in Y you could then use the Admirals Clubs at LAX.

Thanks!

Newb question and I think I probably know the answer - want to confirm my understanding.

Flying MH140 (SYD-KUL), in Y, QF WP - can the staff at SYD QF F lounge change seats on a MH metal? My understanding is QF lounge staff won't be able to change seats.

Want to snatch a seat in the extra leg room rows (9 and 10) in A330 for free, if possible (right now charges $91 approx) OR can ask nicely at check in?
Wow makes me feel like a loser paying for STANDARD seat selection $50-60 for ONE WAY for an 8 hour flight to HK as a no status nobody back in Dec 2022 (emergency row would have costed $115 dollars!). And I thought I was getting a good deal (given how much I paid for a ticket which is 3,000 return).
