The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

I believe children need lounge passes too, unlike status or paid (QC) lounge members who can bring children in
It's been noted many times here on AFF that for QF lounge passes, yes each adult and child needs their own individual pass.

Of course can try the reception discretion, but not likely others have posted previously.
 
If i transfer a Qantas lounge pass to someone who is travelling with a child with they both be allowed into the lounge?
There’s a good chance if they’re a lap passenger (infant) that they might, but otherwise it’s unlikely I’m afraid. Officially, it’s a no.

For those who have travelled Qantas (QF7) and AA (AA578) J class from Sydney to JFK via DFW on a QF ticket, how was your customs experience? Is there a fast-track customs line for F and J passengers like what you encounter at LHR? I'm curious how long it would take for us to go through the initial customs stint and organising our bags to get on the domestic connecting flight (unless these are checked through?) before checking out the lounge!

Would love to hear your experiences and any tips (particularly which AA lounge is worth exploring)!

There is no priority for J or F passengers for CBP / customs at DFW however, my experiences there coming off QF7 (and 21) have been pretty easy (specially compared to LAX for example). CBP is usually reasonablly staffed and probably 20-30min max to get through there depending on where one is in the line and agents, but they are fairly quick. By this time bags are usually rolling, and customs has always been a breeze for me (never stopped). There is a connecting flights bag drop for bags tagged through (which yours would be) but you do have to collect them at DFW as first point of entry to the USA then post customs clear they can be dropped back off.

In general it's taken me under 45 minutes most times at DFW to get landside to continue on. Arriving at terminal D it is easy to go upstairs and clear security there - they are really efficient at the main checkpoint there I've found, and the amount of security theatre is reduced. That will bring you out right by D21 iirc which is where the AA Flagship lounge is located (you go upstairs to access it). This would be the preferred lounge for an incoming oneworld J passenger to use (holding the J boarding pass from QF7 should grant access under OW rules). Staff at the flagship lounge are very used to QF pax and should be fine. It is easily the best AA lounge at DFW.

Depending on time before the DFW-JFK flight of course which probably not leave from the D gates, you should allocated enough time to get over to A,B,C or E gates depending where the JFK flight leaves from (most likely A or C imo). airside transfers by the train are fairly quick - just make sure to catch the one going in the right direction for the terminal you want - I'd probably allocate 20-30mins prior to boarding time to transfer to another terminal if required.

Technically you are supposed to link passes at least 24h before flight.
Correct, though my colleague had no issue linking a lounge pass I transferred them at the door of the SYD INTL J lounge last year.

@Bronze Bomber I haven't been to the amex lounge to provide an opinion on compare/contrast but perhaps consider it this way - will you be flying again before your QF lounge passes expire? If there's a potential to fly domestic, perhaps save your QF passes for that which you could use at a domestic airport, where your amex entries won't be usable.

The qantas lounge! Unless the AMEX lounge has vastly improved in the last 12 months!

The QF lounge can get crowded, but I think it’s streets ahead of AMEX.
 
Isn't the Amex revamped recently as the Centurion Lounge here in Aus?

Read few reviews and nothing too bad, a review here on AFF I believe.

I'll be popping into this centurion SYD come August.
 
Hi all, new to this forum. Where do find information on the Qantas premium economy seats? I want to know how comfortable the middle seat is in the set of 3, when compared to an aisle seat in regular economy. Question from one with wide shoulders.

As I’ve not traveled PE in more than a decade I can’t comment from relevant experience.
 
From experience, PE middle seat offers much more sideways room than an economy seat. Not huge by any measure but heaps more comfortable. I'm normal build and to me, Y can sometimes be a bit cramped but PE width is perfectly sufficient. It's the seat pitch (depth) that gets me in both cabins when the person in front reclines, though in PE it's much more bearable.

One thing that may need some acrobatics is getting out of the seat mid-flight (for e.g. the toilet) when the pax in front have reclined fully. Your fixed armrest vs seat backs in front leave quite little room in between. But if you are able bodied and can twist yourself a little, it works out ok.

Some tech specs are on the Aerolopa site, at the bottom of the seatmap for each plane model and floor (for A380).

I wouldn't say I'm a Newbie to QFF considering I've been with them a whole, but I'm certainly a newbie when it comes to lounge passes. I'm hopefully travelling soon on QF10 PER-MEL (only this bit, not the London leg) and wondering if my domestic pass will let me into the QC (or preferably the transit J Lounge) before the flight. I would assume that it's a no because you could essentially link it to the QC and sneak into the int J but worth asking here

We did this leg alone couple years ago got the orange domestic stamp and as SG member back then was allowed into the transit lounge.
I didn't ask just walked in and handed over BP. I suspected the QC was to be our lounge but no.
No idea of the rules tbh.

Very nice lounge we thought, food wise and decor.
