The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

What's the deal with transferring from Qantas Sydney domestic to Sydney international for Qantas?

There's the gate 15 domestic transfer (hopefully comes regularly). And then assume it just lumps you at security and you go through the whole process again with carry-on, etc?

Yea, off the domestic service at SYD Dom, off to Gate 15, wait for the bus to arrive, scan onward international BP, into the bus, arrive at SYD Intl, join the passport control, then security, then to the lounge/gate based on the pax.

Joining the HKG Lounge Crawl?
Still working things out to see if I'm able to join the crawl. Would love to.. Was going to get seats on the CX services ex-SYD or CBR and keep them handy if I'm able to travel on those dates. If not, I can cancel for a 6000 point penalty. If no CX J opens (anymore), I will book Y seats.

I've seen this and also had this a few times now as WP flying Y intl in QF where the CSM would come down and greet us then ask if we needed anything.

I'm legitimitely curious as to what people have asked for. I'm not trying to ask for some crazy benefit, just what are some very real things you could ask for in Y and likely to get. J alcohol?

Yes - in the past I've said "a drink would be nice, only if you get the chance". Invariably, they've asked what I like... and later on it's showed up. Champagne, a good red, a proper G&T; whatever the mood was. Usually it would then be served in one of the Y plastic cups, but that didn't bother me at all!

The same rarely happens in J, to have a chat and get a treat from F for you (too many elites in J, I guess)... but I did get a nice steak sanga from F once, after they noticed I wasn't that plussed on the idea of the schnitty sanga they used to load in J departing SIN! On that one, IYKYK! :D

Cheers,
Matt.

A few times I've asked if they could drop back a glass of bubble prior to, or a Glenlivet, after the dinner service, and they have. The best was being invited to go up and check out the new J Lounge on the refurbished A380s (SYD-LHR) on New Years Eve 2019, and spending a few hours up there, have a few drinks and lots of nibbles, before slinking back down to row 80-whatever I was in.

Hi all. I am looking at doing the Qantas SYD>NYC via Auckland. Webjet says the stop over is a "hidden stop".

Can someone clarify what a hidden stop entails? I get it is for new passengers and/or cargo. But do I even have to get off the plane?

Does anyone know where or how I can view the t&c's of a flight credit voucher after I have accepted them on the screen?

Reason being, trying to use the flight credit voucher on a multi city trip to USA, and the operator on the phone said it is not possible when there are flights not operated by QF.

My planned itinerary is a AUS - USA west coast return, with a trip while in USA from LAX - ORD.

All flights planned are with either with QF to USA, then AS and AA internally.

Thanks in advance

I think it is just saying that the flight from Sydney to New York (QF3), stops in at Auckland. You do need to get off the aircraft in Auckland and wait in the Transit area, before getting back on the flight to New York. The same coming back on QF4.

It is possible to fly from Sydney to Auckland on QF3, and back (as we did last year), so it is possible passengers will get off and join the flight at Auckland.

Just read this article on Escape. Don’t think the article is entirely accurate. To me the title sounded like a click bait. When I hear the codes in BP, I tend to think SSSS or something like that, not a codeshare flight number …

Also, the line in the article (apparently the FA said) where they say if the flight number is 3 digits it is a larger plane and if 4 digits, then it’s a smaller plane, which ain’t always true. There are 4 digit flight numbers operated on bodies that are NOT Dash’s … my feedback is the article is poorly researched and poorly written .. what do others think?

Very exaggerated/shock-horror - Click Bait.
Although I think if I was flying Melbourne to Adelaide, and there was a Dash 8 waiting for me, I would be more than a little surprised. Some weekends, they also run a Dash 8 between Canberra and Brisbane. That would be a bridge too far, even for me.

I booked that flight once and didn't realise it was a Dash-8. I was catching an international J flight out of MEL, so I would have had the max (possibly over max :) ) carry-on. Fortunately I caught it a few weeks before and transferred to a B737 flight. (At some cost - posted on travel mistakes thread.)

If I have a classic reward in economy and I upgrade with points to business, do I get the points club status credits for the original economy flight or the upgraded class? It’s economy, right?

For member Montecristo:
Sometimes, they hold the QF T3 to T1 bus, till its chockers standing room plus sitting down pax and then the bus will go off on its way from gate 15 via the internal road, to T1 and then have to get up the long escalator to int dep processing at T1, bypassing the T1 check in counters.
The good thing about the QF T3 to T1 system, is that if you have your BP issued at another Aus dom airport, from QF, you can bypass the checkin counter at T1, and just go through to int sec screening, and outgoing smartgate.
VA no longer does this bus service like it used to, as what QF still has, so, if you have to fly out of Aus, and live in ADL/HBA or another airport (better to fly out of Aus with QF), that does not have QFi flights, going out via SYD is ok, tho, going out through MEL is better, as the terminals are all linked, ie walkable.
Going out through MEL is also good now, if you have to overnight there, as there is a new Ibis and Novotel Hotel, out near the AFP/ABF building, on the other side of the multistorey carpark.
SYD Novotel Airport, is far away from T1.

Out of interest when did QF stop selling QF codeshare EK flights to Moscow and St. Petersburg? Those destinations are/were part of the QF-EK partnership and QF have code-shared on those flights before.
