Recently just started working on increasing qantas status credits and am 20 away from Gold. I have until May 31 to get this. What is the best/cheapest way of doing so?

Beyond @RealtimeY’s suggestion, a return flight point to point anywhere on the east coast would be enough. e.g. SYD>MEL return in Y will be 20SC.

As well as QF look at JQ with bundle.
 
Hi, I was searching for classic reward availability on AY flights and found something really strange. Departing Jan 21 from HKG to ARN via HEL there was 3 business reward availability, but when I searched the second leg separately, which was HEL to ARN on Jan 22, there were only 2 business reward availability. How is it that an extra business classic reward seat just appears on AY 801 when I am booking from HKG with a HEL stopover.

I checked on BA website and there was the exact same issue.

That would be what is known as 'married segments'.

I.e. the airline is only willing to sell an award ticket on the two connecting flights, instead of separately. A way of controlling inventory. This will protect the route for someone who needs to connect. I would guess there is enough demand for pax to go HKG-x-ARN for that protection to be warranted.

Thanks, so I currrently have hkg to Hel booked for 3 pax in business and I want to change to hkg to arn, as I have just realised they are the same rewards price. I presume the issue is that I already have hkg to Hel booked, so when they search for hkg to arn availability, they are not able to find any reward seats on hkg to Hel, and thus are not able to change my flight to the hkg to arn married segment flight.

I am considering cancelling and rebooking, will that work, or are there any other methods to get around this, maybe a Hobart phone agent?

Not sure. You could try asking if they can cancel the booking and rebook on the same phone call. Assuming you get the points straight back in your account.

Alternatively, do you have enough points to book the new flights before the old flights are cancelled?

Well I currently have hkg to Hel booked, on dec 31, so I can’t change my booking to add a Hel to Arn leg also because I’ve already booked all three hkg to Hel rewards.

In this case I might just cancel and rebook. Does anyone know whether reward seats I cancel will immediately be put back on the system?

QF policy says yes, but that "may not be supported by all Oneworld airlines" is questionable, espc for BA.

QF policy says yes but getting an agent to do it is another thing - have tried twice in the last couple of years and both “can’t be done” but that was connecting to AA where the benefit was minimal anyway.

Worth a try given you don’t need to collect bags connecting at LHR.

I soon worked out that it would only be able to be used from NZ.
No worries.
I needed to rebook for November.
J saver flights from ZQN-MEL were $831, but when I went to use my travel bank, the J saver flights were showing $1431, which is the price of the J flex fare even though it was saying Business Saver.
What the?

The booking system for credit vouchers does not always show the same fares you would see advertised when making a new booking through the usual method.

You have to call QF, explain you cannot book the advertised fare and have them book it for you. They should waive the assisted booking fee. Be aware that not all operators understand how to do these type of credit voucher bookings (I've had problems with South Africa and Fiji call centers). If you manage to get through to Hobart they are the best option (at least in my experience).

Correct - it’s much the same as with gift voucher redemption, on certain routes and at certain times. Sale fares aplenty on the main search, but nothing except saver and flex on the redemption path.

Call up and explain the issue and they can book and you don’t need To pay the service fee, as it couldn’t be done online.

Not even AKL and even some new members at HBA knows how to properly do multi -city bookings. Took an hour last time for me as they had to get their supervisors to show them how its done.
 
Hi all. Not 100% sure where to put this. it could be here (it's a QFF points redemption newbie query) or in Jetstar or Other Airlines & Frequent Flyer Programs!

I have two related questions about a proposed redemption for an itinerary that would look like this: Brisbane to Bangkok (Jetstar) - Bangkok to Muscat (Oman Air) - Muscat to Rome. The Bangkok flight would land at 8pm and the leg to Muscat would depart at 9am the next day (a 13 hour layover).

1. If I'm on an onward ticket booked via Qantas within the OneWorld sphere, would my checked baggage automatically get transferred from Jetstar to Oman Air for the next segment, or would I need to collect it in Bangkok, and then check in separately with Oman Air? (similar to question above) Indeed, could I check in and get my tickets for the Oman Air flight via Jetstar initially?

2. If it does need to be collected/can't check in for Oman Air, I assume I'd be stuck landside until around ~6am before check-in would open with Oman Air. (Rather than being airside and being able to trawl lounges.) Therefore it would be better to get a hotel for overnight (and need something like a transit visa)? Or would it be possible to a transit within the airport?

Bonus question: If you can think of a cheaper way to get from Brisbane to Rome in April with QFF points, I'd love to hear it! (This itinerary comes in at 59,300 QFF points and $220 in fees per person in economy.)

Jetstar is definitely not in the Oneworld sphere. A low cost point to point carrier, that happens to be owned by the Qantas Group. The Qantas operating airline also happens to be owned by the Qantas Group.

Please be aware that we don’t transfer your baggage between flights. However, there are some exceptions:
  • Connecting international Jetstar flights and flights with our partner airlines (see list below), where both international flights were purchased on the same booking
  • Domestic flights in Japan connecting to international flights operated by American Airlines, Air Canada, Delta Air Lines, Japan Airlines and Qantas, where both flights were purchased on the same booking

Oman Air is not in the list. But some not well known airlines are.
Would be surprised if Oman Air knows what Jetstar is.
