The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

If I’m flying SYD-SIN on QF F, can I access the QF F or J lounge at Changi on arrival, assuming no onward travel on any OW airline?
I'm afraid not - there's no arrivals lounge access for Qantas lounges anywhere but the domestic J lounges, which is a QFF Platinum benefit. Changi Airport does however have other options for freshening up, including pay per use lounges (some of which will require an underlying membership), and pay per use access to the Aerotel rooftop pool (in T1, where you would arrive), which includes towels and shower facilities.

Cheers,
Matt.

Hi does anyone know what the JL domestic SC earn rate for J is? I see the F earn rate on the calculator but not J.

There's some pretty cheap J flights on JL and I may consider doing some status runs when I'm there for work given JL has very good service as well.

EDIT: I think I found the table that has the rates and it matches the F earnings. In which case I found some of the cheapest SC earnings available.

What fare class does it book into? Then look at the QF earn table. You ought to be able to work out the SCs.

If you’re not sure on the distance, gcmap.com will help.

JAL domestic ‘class J’ is economy class plus a small surcharge of $10 or whatever it is now. Unfortunately it’s not ‘J’ for business class. It most certainly won’t credit as F. It might credit as pre immediately economy? See here: Using Qantas points for JAL domestic business

Where are all the SYD-DOH rewards flights? I see several when I look at American Airlines search, are they not the same rewards seat? E.g. in October I see two business class fares for 80k AA points that do not show up on Qantas search.

I just assumed they would be OW seats but is that not how it works?

Airlines can release seats for their own FF program before other FF members. Or other FF programs may not get access at all.

QR currently has an issue with QF. there's almost no reward flights atm for QFF on QR. Funnily you can probably book it on VA.

I made a flight booking yesterday with work's travel site, and notice on the booking confirmation email they gave me "Ticket(s) will be issued on Monday, 27March2023"

How would this type of arrangement impact DSC earning if i needed to cancel and redo the booking??

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found it a bit strange. And when I did find some in the other direction, it wouldn't let me select it

Agree with this as mostly the likely cause, but there's also a chance that what is showing up on AA is phantom availability too.

"phantom availability" I am learning so many new terms in my first day on this forum 👀
(welcome aboard)

yes, sometimes availability can be "phantom" (and this has happened with AA in the past) where it shows up, but not actually bookable. No idea if this is the case here, but it can be a thing - thus giving a misleading idea of what's actually available on a parter.

Thanks for the welcomes!
Another question. Can I access Qantas Business Lounge at Changi if I'm flying on Finnair OWA booked via Qantas.com?

Edit: I think I found my answer and I believe can enter on my oneworld ticket number

Yes, in fact you can also access British Airways (opens 4 pm), Qatar Airways (opens 5:30 pm) and Marhaba (24 hours) flying Business class:

Newbie here - booked tickets to Jakarta yesterday for my partner and I.
With DSC now on offer from today, is it best to cancel and rebook?

This DSC will see us both get to Gold at he completion of this trip.

Thanks

If you can without penalty but it does need to be a new booking to qualify.
