The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Has anyone got their Accor silver status from Points Club Plus after m one eligible stay? I am looking to book a hotel such as Mercure for 1 night and was wondering if I needed to do it through the Accor website or will it still work if I go through Qantas Hotels.

As a general rule, you don't get status recognised if you book through third party websites like Qantas Hotels.

Of course, hoping for DSC but not going to happen methinks!
UPDATE :
Thanks for all your insightful comments re QFd return v one-way x 2.

To simplify our travel, I just booked the dates needed (though $30 pp extra as I procrastinated 🤔)
QFd 2 pax on one PNR (for family celebration in Feb) before sale ends 23/10/23.

Now wait for DSC Monday.......

For a flight change - where two pax, return domestic Y ticket, on one PNR. Is it possibile for a late flight change for one pax only on one sector. Ticket would have to be split (two PNRs)? Too risky for offshore agents with reticketing and short timeframe? May be safer to forfeit one fare and buy another?

I book separate PNR's often. An extra step in admin (one vs two bookings) but easier to manage my own changes or cancellations. I'm yet to find a downside to this.
For me, the downside is two change or cancel fees if you need to amend the bookings. And as @SYD said the inability to make other changes in case of a qantas-initiated change.

I am about to request something similar. Should be feasible as long as travel has not commenced. If it has you won't see a refund for any cancelled flights.

Does anyone know when or how often Cathay reward seats become available to Qantas customers? I can several availability on CX's redemption portal but none of the flights are yet available on Qantas.

Sometimes I wish I kept all my points with AsiaMiles instead of shifting everything to QFF :(

CX used appear on QF very early (beyond the normal QF 355 odd days). You could normally find them in the calendar view and stepping beyond the 355 days out.

If they dates sooner and not visible the. Perhaps CX isn’t releasing those seats to partners. Have you looked on AA to see if they’re visible there?

Unfortunately AA is showing the same seats as Qantas.

Paying by credit card will see 2 sets of visa/mastercard credit/debit card charges

Noting that given they are a % of the fare, cost will be the same whether you do 1 or 2 bookings; given all domestic fares are sold as one way and no discount for return pricing (unlike international).

Well, I guess that’s not a bad thing re availability / visibility on QF.

So they‘re possibly additional seats for AM members? Do they have the equivalent of “saver” and “non-saver” reward seats?

They used to have both saver and non-saver, which was clearly labelled, but they've recently updated their website. I haven't used it enough to keep track in the difference in redemption points.

It’s possible they’re some sort of “non saver” seats. I have an AM account but I never used it in anger so can’t be definitive.

Howdy all, wondering what usual lag time is between a hotel stay booked through Qantas Hotels and points showing up?

Welcome to AFF @RareAir
As per Airwin - one month.
All ours from recent trip to Europe came through spot on one month. Never had an issue with getting the points.
If you book hotels through Accor ALL, QFF and ALL points come through in a few days.
Happy travels ✈️

Also, QF points from AirBnB stays booked via QF Hotels come through in a matter of days.

I assume the lag with hotels stays is a function of the Expedia system (that drives QF Hotels). ie booking via Expedia also has a 4 wk wait for the $ credit to appear in your account.

Hi all
When I go to the seat selection page in manage my booking for a trip that includes QF1 (SYD-SIN-LHR), I can only select one seat for both segments. That is, there is one seat selection page for the entire QF1 journey. I can see that there is wider seat availability on one of the sectors. Is there a way to select different seats for each sector?
Thanks

Is there a way to select different seats for each sector?
You would need to call the QF Customer Care(less) team for this (or wherever you booked the flight from). Alternatively, go through the check-in or service desk at the airport and ask them to change for the second flight (if any decent seats are available at that point).
