The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

If say I were traveling with a (larger) group of mates on the same QF/*O flight in Y, and not enough of us were *O S or E for lounge access, can I "swap" in and out guests for lounge access?
What Airport? As mentioned above, difference lounges should be OK and if flying QF you could use lounge passes to get in additional pax.

For linking bookings, would my friend benefit from better seat selection choices after the bookings are linked?

Also as it's only one leg, does the other legs have any issues if we link the bookings together?

No (but perhaps yes after check-in), but you can call to get seated together in an area reserved for the higher status member.

Don't know, but I think it should be fine.

No, their seat selection will depend on their status level - there's no carry over in benefits from a link.

Cheers.

I can take them through F check in whether they're linked or not right? (Both solo travelling SYD > HND)

I've never had an issue with taking people on seperate bookings through the F check-in (although last time I flew QF25 the check-in area was very quiet and F check-in was closed).

Hi,

I'm a QF platinum, flying Melbourne to Auckland with my brother and mother in September 2025.

I know I'm only permitted one guest (both are bronze), but has anyone had any recent success getting in with 2 guests, or is it not worth trying?

Thanks

I haven’t tried, but you should at least be able to sign one into the J lounge and take the other to the F lounge.

Sept 2024 or 2025?

Keep a look out for a free (J) lounge pass

I tried playing dumb recently with 2 colleagues at Syd int J and the lounge attendant wasn't having a bar of it. Had to use a pass for the second guest.

September 2025? As in almost 2 years time? Things may well change between now and then.

Anyway, I recently witnessed someone in a similar situation and the lounge attendant said something like "and how will you be entering today?" to the 3rd person, and then clarified, to some confused looks, that only 1 guest was permitted. There was then a few "no no, you go in" exchanged between them, and then ultimately none of them went in.

I wanted to say one of them was actually my guest, but felt like this particular lounge attendant would have seen through it and not allowed that.

As in September 2024. I'm a year ahead of myself, haha. This time of year it's usually the other way around....

But from experience if you want to sit together, if you call and ask for seats together, they will almost always set you together (ie to match the higher status seat selection). Mr Seat 0A and I often travel on different bookings when I travel for work and he comes along, and so far QF have always seated us together, in advance, using this method. I’m WP and he’s LTG.

Go up the escalator to the lounge by yourself and ask the agent if you may have two guests. If it isn't busy they may well say yes. But if you front up with two people in person and ask, expect a refusal.

This is great advice. Appreciate the tip.

Clearly my mother never taught me good lounge etiquette!

I am not sure if it just started this morning, being the 1st of January but Qantas is now charging about triple the taxes for a business class reward. It should be the same taxes no matter what the class is. This seems to apply only to overseas flights. Any idea whats happening?

Which route did you check that for? Was it on Qantas metal, or partner (which one).

I only checked two domestic routes so farwhere I saw taxes are equal for AKL, and 1.5 higher for DPS.

Might be carrier surcharges, they can vary by class of travel.
Yep, I was looking at some CR flight options for a friend. SYD-CGK return in whY was $219. Put in Biz on one leg (return) and it jumped to $289. An existing booking for myself later in the year (J return) was $363.72.
