The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Excellent response @NM
From what I have learned here it is also worth OP @Aswong having the flight number, date and departure time ready to assist the agent when calling re " involuntary change".
Good luck with it @Aswong let us know the outcome and welcome to AFF ✈️

I was finally able to resolve this! Took about 5 attempts spread out over multiple weeks, but eventually got an agent who was willing to believe me that I could be accommodated on my preferred day without any fees.

Thanks for the help!

Hey,

I have a few award bookings that I need to add an infant to, these were all booked with QFF but are on JAL and Air France. From what I understand to add an infant I'll need to call up Qantas, but does anyone know if I need to call up Qantas or the operating carrier to reserve a bassinet?

I think it is always safer to call the operating airline… their aircraft, their seat maps, their systems. Better than using a third party.

You will definitely need to call Qantas to add the infant to the booking, and note there is likely to be additional fees to be paid.

For seat reservations, ask Qantas when making the booking change, but I expect they will point you to the operating airline. Most will not guarantee access to a bassinet but may add the request to the reservation which will be dependent on availability.

we are flying with JAL later this year and would like to know how I earn status points with Qantas as I purchased ny tickets with JAL. How do I register my Qantas FF

Have you checked the Qantas website as to how you do that? it’s there …You give JAL your QF number.

In the manage booking screen, select 'Services' and the FF field should be top of screen.

Hi, Ive booked some reward flights on China Airlines using Qantas points for next month. As a points club member, do I get any status credits?

I know technically CI aren't part of Oneworld, but they also have a codeshare QF number. I can see on my ticket that it's booked under the CI number, CI52 but my flight does have my qff number in the booking.

No. It’s not a QF operated flight.

New to this site, so thanks for the ad. Can anyone tell me if you after using my Qantas Frequent Flyer Points to book a flight for six people {including myself} do I get status points allocated to me for the six or just myself. Also, can anyone tell me how or where I can find out may status points balance. Thanks in advance.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Assuming you used your points to book a Classic Reward flight and not using Points Plus Pay, you would only get Status Credits if you have qualified for Points Club, and only for your personal flights, not for all passengers.

If others have Points Club, they can earn Status Credits if you provide their frequent flyer number.

would I get access to the Sydney first lounge as a platinum qff member flying to Nadi with Fiji airways on a qf codeshare?

Hi @col moody, just for clarification:

Qantas Frequent Flyer Points and Status Credits are not the same thing (no such thing as Status points).

Generally speaking, if you use QFF points to make bookings using what are called "Classic Rewards" you will not earn any further points or Status Credits for those flights. The exception to this is if you are are also a member of Qantas Points Club, that is , you've earned enough QFF points through means other than flying. But in that case, you only earn the Status Credits one person would earn, not 6x - each traveller would earn their respective amounts. Classic rewards are the discounted seats that Qantas offers on a limited basis.

If you use points to purchase what is known as "Points + Pay" then you will earn Status Credits, but again, only per traveller, not collectively. Points + Pay is the more expensive option that can be used on any fare on any flight, as you're effectively buying a fare using points rather than cash.
