The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

I ha

Thanks for that. On the website on a desktop it says 'upgrade not available' then it says 'bid now' request already submitted. When I click on that it shows my cancelled 'bid now' upgrade.

On the app it shows 'upgrade requested' then when I click 'view more' it says 'information on my upgrade is currently unavailable'. Its all a bit confusing.
Oh Dear. :( I have never done a bid now upgrade so can't help much on that.

One suggestion I have is to try using a browser on a desktop. Often things can work better there than with the Qantas App.

You should be able to cancel the request, not that the web pages indicates how.

I suggest you call, HUACA until you get someone who really can help.

You will have to deal with either the MNL or JNB team of outsourced agents.
If lucky, might get the AKL team.
If they are knowledgeable and on the ball, it would probably work.
But hard to say fir sure.
Best of luck.

Sorry for being a bit Dumb. But why wouldn't I just book it online?
I can see the tickets there.
If there a benefit to using a call centre?

If you get them booked online, go for it. The QF call centre adds no value in that case. You'd need them only for bookings which the online front-end can't handle (though, in more complex cases you could also consider a good travel agent).

I got a text this morning saying my request to upgrade to business for my international flight was unsuccessful due to insufficient points. I have more than enough points though? Has anyone else had this issue?

Does this apply to your booking:

Note: If there are multiple people travelling in your booking and all passengers are eligible family members, your online request for a Classic Upgrade Reward will apply to each passenger.

If you don’t want to upgrade all people in your booking with your points, or your booking includes passengers who aren’t eligible family members, you’ll need to call our Qantas Contact Centre to split the booking before you request an upgrade.

Flying with FinnAir (Qantas) on Friday with the following itinerary: SYD > SIN > HEL > FRA. I am guessing the first operating airline in this itinerary, Qantas, will through check my luggage to Frankfurt so I just need to collect it there?

It may sound like a weird request but just trying to not pay the most expensive fares for a Christmas trip:

Can I make a mixed-mixed booking: Economy-Qantas and Business-Jetstar? If so, I am sure only via the phone.

You would almost certainly need to book it via a travel agent or calling Qantas. Personally I wouldn't go through Qantas as their JQ fares are almost always fairly ridiculous compared with JQ themselves.

Also where would you be looking at flying. There are potentially other options that isn't Qantas group if you want to be budget conscious.

Yeah, VA is cheaper, but: We are also thinking about making it a status run for my partner, hence Qantas.

Bali is the destination.

Your other option if you want easier booking time is to go JQ the whole way.

Following Elanshin's idea, and you need to buy buy the "plus" deal/bundle, if choosing QF's cousin airline.
The basic fare with JQi does not include QFF points or QFF SC, you have to pay about $50/$75/$100 more on the basic fare, to get the "plus" deal.
Maybe you knew already Muehli3.

To be exact it's called a Business MAX fare and would allow you to earn status credits at the Business rate per the Qantas calculator:

If you go to the JQ website. a lot of the places that JQi flies to, are on the 321neo with no J cabin.
So, no business max.
Its only the Y bundle, or deal.
On longer routes, ie, NRT, or HNL, then yes, its the business max.
To DPS, half of their (JQ)'s service is on the 321neo.
And even a 787 that I saw, had no option to choose J on their flight DPS - SYD.

Yep, Business Max in a 787-8 MEL-DPS - still subject to government and regulatory approval. But we are not yet sure how to fly :-D

2 bags lost after arriving in Santiago - 5 days have passed. No response to my claims for essentials. Qantas Baggage department no idea where the bags are... Great stuff Qantas.. Is there anyway to talk to someone who has an interest in actually helping instead of sending me on a merry go round?
Curious if you finally received your bags.Qantas lost my luggage 2 weeks ago and after numerous phone calls they are no help.I’m beginning to think they will never find them.

Any way to contact QF via WhatsApp? I’m on a cruise line atm with internet but without phone service.

Skype and similar will work to call. Some other apps mentioned here.

I've got lounge passes setup for my wife and I for our flight next Tue thinking no worries, our 2.5 year old will come in tow, but I just read for the complimentary passes it's a no guest (including children) situation - from reading it can go either way, thought I'd check what peoples experiences have been at the moment, if any?
