Are EK PE seats available as QFF CR's? I'm trying to find PE seats in Feb 2025 for SYD-CHC return.
The QF multi-city shows yellow ribbon on selected dates for outbound but clicking through gives only Y, J and F options.

Is this just a question of limited releases which have been booked or is that class typically not released to QFF?

EK PE reward seats aren't even available to their own members, such thing as emirates premium economy redemption seat doesn't exist.

I'm flying Sydney to Cairns on the weekend and wondering if it is worth upgrading to business class for 27,200 points (starting point was red eye flight). I'm thinking it's probably better to use the points for a longer flight. Thoughts?

Always better for a longer journey in biz.

Depends how many points you have, if saving them for a particular trip in future & how quickly you accumulate them.

Thanks, I think I am leaning towards saving them for a longer haul flight as I don't have too many points to begin with. Definitely agree that it is always nice to turn left rather than right when boarding though.

How often are the JAL reward flights available? I would like to fly to Japan using JAL to make use of my points, however being from Adelaide it doesn't seem like there's much option to do so other than the usual QF flights.

I assume you're looking for Business Class. Generally if you're looking at less than a year out, there'll be no availability unless JAL has just done a random drop of award space (happens rarely). However, you can generally reliably find JAL award space if you look at the end of the calendar, but this means you'll have to book a year out.

I think it might just be the regular staffed service desks. I checked in in SYD last week and there didn’t seem to be any ‘international connections’ desk, and I was sent to the the regular ones. Lots of other DOM-INT pax there as well.

In June we utilised the check in desk for our international connection at MEL T1 @opusman , @MEL_Traveller - baggage tagging, boarding passes, checking passport etc.

It is to the very right of the terminal near Oversize baggage.
With some hoardings due to renovations, made it a bit tricky to see, we did have to ask where it was.

The temporary security screen is now in place making the right hand side rather congested. I checked in for my dom->int flights to the left of security at one of the service desks. There is no dedicated 'International Connections' check in desk any more.

On August 20 I used the dom->int check in counters at MEL. They were at the far end of the check-in area as described by @Flyfrequently above.

Have they been closed/moved/demolished since then?

The check in desks are there… desks as opposed to kiosks. I just don’t know if they are marked ‘international connection’ like they used to be?

I think as long as you make it to ‘a’ check-in desk, rather than kiosk, you’re good to go.

My memory might be failing me but I thought there was some signage.

Yes I’m sure you will get checked in if you front up to any check in desk - and not a kiosk.

I just went through MEL T1. Now the new security area is opened, the desks that were to the right of old checkpoint are gone. So there are only manned desks to the left of the check in area. There were no dedicated int connection signage, but quite a few agents dealing with obvious connecting pax.

Yes as others have said, it's just the general service counters now at MEL T1. There was no dedicated premium queue operating on Saturday PM but the airport was pretty quiet so wait was quite short. Agent seemed a little confused by the concept of an international connection but we got there in the end.

Interestingly the "roaming" agent that I asked said we could use normal check-in kiosks and bag drop if we wanted, and it'd be tagged through to FCO automatically, but I knew we'd still need to find someone to show our passports to so decided to use the service counter.

The new scanners are great, no need to take anything out of bags.

Except when the AI bot is so sensitive that 2 out of 3 bags are sent for a secondary check. Until they finesse that give me taking out laptops and liquids any day.

I've noticed that the secondary check happens more often when I overpack my bag, so I try to spread things out a bit more. For me, I'd still take secondary check over taking things out (or other people taking their sweet time taking things out!)
