The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

@rare- another thought - just to double check - has your ticket been issued? Do you have the eticket receipt with ticket number? I am sure you do, just want to be sure for you. Sometimes that can cause probs for upgrade requests (not to mention flying).

I get you are short a few points, and that could be the generic way of saying so - and probably is the case. Just wanted to check.
Yes thanks e-ticket issued

Am booked in business on QF79 operated by an A333 and logged in at T-80 to try to change my seat to 1A/K, but these have remain blocked and only 1E/F have opened up. Is this normal? I thought all blocked seats opened up at T-80. There are two other seats in business showing on EF as vacant.

1A and K are the bassinet positions on that type.

Perhaps the flight has pax booked with infants and these pax are yet to select seats ( though you’d think the system would auto-assign them).

Or they’re taken? EF will show if taken or blocked.

Interesting, I wonder if it's simply the system blocking off bassinet seats until check-in opens?

EF shows they're blocked, not occupied.

I have a vague recollection that on some recent flights they opened around T-24. I wasn’t paying too much attention as I already had a 2A/K seat (proper window seat).

I'll report back at T-24.

Do they have extra flight deck crew for 10hr flight?
If so, it could be blocked for flight deck crew rest?
No idea. On previous such flights though I never noticed crew occupying any of the seats.

1A/K sometimes become available at T-24, but if they are still blocked you can usually get them assigned at airport checkin; the agent usually has to make a phone call to clear this.

Update:
Called QFF today.
Agent said to wait until travel completed as aircraft  may change back to include business class (fair point but unlikely?)

After completion of travel to call back for reimbursement of price difference, could not indicate what this would be.
Further update from recent downgraded revenue flight:

After advice from Bangkok Airways, emailed Qantas, their response was need to call.

I called this past Monday, 2/52 after downgrade from J to Y on revenue USM-SIN leg.

Agent completed the required forms and she suggested Compensation, with me thinking I may get points....

This afternoon call from Qantas Sydney, email followed confirming refund of $758 to credit card and a $400 flight credit voucher.

Impressed with quick response and am happy with this outcome.

How far out do QF offer CR seats?
We are looking at flights into Europe mid-late Aug next year and can't see any reward seats past March. Have been Gold for ~13years, no chance of making Platinum, so can't request seats.

353 days for Gold+ however that does not automatically mean seats are released. The previous reliable release changed nobths ago and is far more ad hoc - at least from anecdotal evidence.

Ypu may need to be creative to find eother QF or partner rewards - specially in premium cabins - to get to europe. Eg lookong to go via places like KUL, DPS, CGK, HKG etc

Hi Everyone,
I was going to redeem QFF Classic Reward points for First class tix on QF63 (SYD-JNB) next year. When I pick dates that classic is available and select 1 ticket I see the 142300 point offer but if I try to book 2 tix it reverts to 353200 points for each ticket. Is this normal practice? Do I need to transfer the points to my wife and she purchases a single fare in her account? Sorry to bother. Cheers

There’s probably only one seat available and if you want to get two it prices as a classic rewards plus.

There's likely only 1 CR ticket left. All passengers in a booking need to be on the same ticket type, so it makes you buy 2x of the more expensive classic plus.

You could make two seperate bookings to get the lowest possible total price.

Is it possible to make an upgrade request for only some passengers in a booking, not all? I'd like to apply for an upgrade for my wife and daughter, not me. But when I try to do a classic rewards upgrade request there's no option to select which passengers to request the upgrade to, it's either none or all.

Does QF add lower booking class seats at a later date?

I could've sworn i watched sale seats disappear a week ago on a specific route/date and for it to pop back today as sale.

That's correct, none or all.............
2 separate bookings are the only way you could do this and the 2nd would probably have to be bought, not CR.

@zeruassiul You can split the booking first and then:

How do I request an upgrade for an eligible family member who is not travelling with me?

  • Log in to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account at qantas.com
  • Select 'Upgrade a family member’
  • Enter their Booking reference and Last name and follow the steps
