The Qantas Singapore Lounge

My take. It's an improvement on what was there. Also an improvement (both decor and food) on the old F lounge. For an international outstation its a great lounge, but SYD and MEL F it's not.

Bit this is SIN and you have a good variety of other oneworld or EK lounges. As we will in HKG when the new lounge opens there

I find this extremely hard to believe.
Why?

If I am going to Asia for ~2 weeks the last thing I want before and after my trip is Asian food. What looks and tastes good to you is slop for the next person.

We are not asking for too much. Emirates is providing it. Cathay is providing it. Malaysia Airlines is providing it.

And a western airline chooses not to provide it. Very sad indeed....

Oh well then, it's off to another lounge for you then.

It's a bit much to say "Cathay are providing it". Their Western food (of whatever little of it that is provided) is probably just above the grade of cardboard or flavoured starch. I suppose that satisfies a criteria. A bit like saying Cathay also serves Deutz Champagne so it does serve Champagne, but Deutz is the world's lousiest substitute for petroleum. But, as you say, one man's tasty is another man's slop. (Can I state here for posterity that I do not regard all Western food as slop - and I do like to eat Western food. Unlike some others on this forum who broad brush Asian as all slop...)

I suppose we are a Western nation who has a Western airline....................

I think the point is that the food provided is not of a failure level. It doesn't have the variety it may need, but what is provided is not unsatisfactory. After having been in AA or UA lounges where the best thing provided is nuts and pastries (and possibly yoghurt covered things), plus micro-warmed food which you have to pay for, I'd say the report card for QF's food offering in SIN is at least a C, or even a B+. I certainly wouldn't give it an F.

Certainly, for the points that have been discussed in the thread, except possibly for overcrowding, there is none which I believe condemn the QF Singapore Lounge effort for forfeit.

Though there are some shortcomings:
- no champagne for WP/F pax
- limited non Asian selection (not an issue for me personally)
- crowded in peak times (of lounge had this issue too).

Despite this, IMO the new lounge is a significant improvement to the old offering.

I recently visited ANA KIX lounge, TG BKK J lounge, and give me the QF SIN lounge over them any day, and they are home hubs compared to QF where it is an overseas port.

QF need a good kick up the a*%# for some things, but for me well done on the SIN lounge.

Again, why?

I can have chicken, beef with Cathay.

I can have beef, lamb with Emirates.

I can have lamb, chicken with Malaysia.

But Qantas chooses to serve Asian only food with some awful pasta as the alternative.

Fantastic. Off to another lounge I go and I am happy. Just as well SYD First lounge catering is not Asian only food....

What a load of rubbish, there are western options including salads and Australian Ham, hamburgers and club sandwiches, just because you may not choose those options or be in the lounge when they are on offer does not mean they don't exist! And lets not forget the Creme Brûlée, might fine Asian dish that .

You are the second person to call me a load of rubbish. Salads, pasta and creme brulee are not good enough western options.

Here is a thought for the Qantas team in Singapore. Provide proper western main meal options and provide noodles and rice for the rest.

It is very simple? Would you like me to take care of the menu on a full time basis. I do not even need to be on the Qantas payroll and I can easily look after it from here....

Did you forget the club sandwiches and hamburgers as well, like I said, its a load of rubbish to assert the western options are lacking, but feel free to go to the Skyview lounge which is your old haunt where the options are less in the area you desire, being of Greek origin I would have thought you could smell the EK lamb a mile away, isn't it nice to have options no matter what ones palette favours ?

All you really want is meat pies in a lounge and you'd be happy yes ?

The food is pretty cough in the SIN lounge - I am not a big fan, the extras/sides are great, but the main dish is not to my taste

No. The Emirates lounge is able to provide lamb and steak. Why is it so difficult for Qantas to provide the same?

Am I really being unreasonable? And not I do not want salad, pasta or creme brulee.

Selective quoting at its best, plus neither member called you a load of rubbish, they just questioned your opinion...

I am sorry but you won't ever see a meat pie in the SIN lounge. That is not a bad thing in itself...

I dont want a meat pie in SIN lounge.

I just want the beef and lamb that is being served in Emirates lounge to be served in Qantas lounge. And a desktop connecterd to a printer.

By the way how does Emirates serve western beef and lamb in their lounges and Qantas does not?

I know I am not being unreasonable. I know I am not in the minority. I am just more vocal than others....

But you chose to ignore others who call you up on your views?
That is unreasonable...

Makes me extremely unreasonable.

It is not difficult for Qantas to provide the same. The undeniable conclusion is that they want to cater the way they are.

Why?

I would suggest they have done the research and are catering for the majority of passengers - believing that such catering can improve patronage.

Ii the offerings generally does not suit you then, ipso facto, you are part of the minority.

Such is life ...

Yes the catering does suit the majority of passengers and it's served up at a price point that it is sustainable in the long term!

I can't remember what I had the first time in the SIN lounge about 2 1/2 months ago but the main dish was nicer than the most recent (current) one

Just because I don't like it doesn't mean it's bad!

As mentioned by others John - You have choices, so make them and fly with who you think provides what you want

That misses the point entirely. No one can deny you don't like the food. What I find unreasonable is your stubbornness to even acknowledge those whose opinions differ to yours without misquoting their information in its proper context. And no it's not the first time either...

I love the Skyview lounge. The last 2-3 times in the Skyview lounge they have had this gorgeous chicken dish, Looks like chicken medallions in a garlicky type of sauce.

I know I am getting nowhere in this thread and that is sad.

Every single lounge in Asia provides a western main meal option except for the Qantas SIN lounge.
