The Qantas Status Run Master Thread

Okay gurus, I'm headed to the US next year and trying to turn it into a status run w/DSC right now as I'm into LAX and out of DFW (+/- a DFW-Washington DC in between) but am struggling... maybe because I only have internet on my phone and not a computer but I can't figure out how to view the different legs and dates with options as it just shows me 'Qantas choice or flex fares' and the app is even worse?! In short, I need to be in LA by 30 May and leave DFW for ADL from 29 July onwards and don't mind multi-stops and layovers, just want a reasonable fare with max SCs. I miss the days of being able to simply plug in dates on their website, what am I doing wrong? 😕 FWIW, I can find a basic fare ADL-LAX, DFW-ADL for ~$2400 with jack all points and not upgradeable and an S bucket version on ITA matrix for ~$3500 but can't find a way to select those fares online?! Those are direct and I'm happy to dogleg anywhere for the SC 🙂

On a side note, to make things easier, can you turn on your phone's hotspot so that you can use your computer's web browser connected to your phone's data, via WiFi?

Just noticed that DRW-DIL earns 100 status credits in J, despite the route being only 451 miles long. Flight time is just over an hour, served by the E190.

A return fare seems to be pretty consistently priced at $2002, so not the cheapest out there, but in theory you could go there and back in under 4 hours. If booked on DSCs, it's about $5/SC.

Not sure if a same-plane turnaround in Timor Leste is possible. Personally I'd stay a few days and check the place out!

Other J options (SC count shown is before DSCs) include:

  • ASP-DRW-DIL earns 320 SC for $3102 return
  • ADL-DRW-DIL earns 360 SC for $3440 return

How about some nested b2bs? Does that give a better price profile? You could still spend some time there, too; depending on how you schedule each of those trips.

They say the diving and snorkelling is good, so worth a punt I'd say! 😂

Is POM much different? Personally always preferred PNG for its flora and fauna.

Hello! New joiner coming from the BAEC, I have found an interesting routing last night, though quite niche and probably only for those residing in Europe.

I have found EDI-LHR-MAD-PMI and back, combination of BA and IB, I class, for as low as £280. That's £1/1SC, or 1.94AUD/SC. Availability is good, but only Feb-Apr and no weekends (which brings it to £330). Only drawback is that it's Eurobusiness all the way (couldn't get the daily LH configured A350 on the LHR-MAD leg, but you might be able to tinker around).

Bagged two last night! That's almost gold for just over 1000AUD.

Your BAEC TP calcs are slightly off, it's only 100TP each way (so £1.40/TP). Domestic J in Spain is only 20TP so it's 40+40+20x2 = 200. It's a slightly higher price than what is available for a few years ago, but good to see it's still around.

My interpretation, with this being a Qantas Status Run thread, is that @EDIfly has moved from BAEC to QFF, making the status calculation (depending on fare class, of course) to be (40+60+40)x2=280

I'm seeing these fares starting mid January, availability varies across the week (including weekends) depending on how long your turnaround is.

Throwing the £/SC in there confused things a bit, should have just put the $/SC.

For those BAEC travellers, as noted, it's only 100TP each way.

Apologies for the confusion, I am indeed leaving TP and BAEC behind. You can do weekends, but you need to include the Friday or the Monday from what saw yesterday.

Nice find! I've just started looking for intra-EU runs for February (need a quickie 205 SC to requalify) .... gratefully receiving any other tips people know of!

xx_-LHR-TIA / SFO / OTP etc. are good for BAEC, but I know the earning in QFF is a bit different. Their price points are great in CE though, so worth having a look at and seeing how many SC it earns.

Maybe a PC sweet spot?
Speaking of PC sweet spots, the new DRW SIN routr is primed for it. I think you can get away with MEL - BNE-DRW-SIN but the timings don't work out as great. Just regular MEL - DRW - SIN would be a solid earner granted you ditched an a330 and MEL F lounge for an A220.

The problem with these SH+ is that the distance threshold are different, so they earn no more than VIE, BUD, ARN (60SC) which are usually cheaper out of LHR. IST would be in the next earning step (80SC) but the pricing is a bit bonkers atm

Have you tried SAW instead? Often prices better.

I did actually, and was quite a bit less indeed. In the end however I went for PMI instead as it attracts 60+40SC instead of 80SC for a further £150 cheaper :)
More so for others, it's a nice little trick that most aren't aware of 😀
