Got to Helensvale station ~9:45pm last night waiting for the 10:04pm train to Brisbane. There was a group of young kids hanging around outside the station (and I mean really young) and were joined by another 2 young girls. The filth that was coming out of the youngest girl's mouth in the group was unbelievable. I quickly went downstairs to wait for the train with everyone else.

Left a very sour taste in my mouth. Does everyone turn a blind eye and say this is not my problem?

I guess their parents have.

Yes, I rarely get involved (and it has to be very serious to be a "rarely".). The chance of being bashed is way too high to care about those stupid louts. But don't worry, soon they will have their own children to look after, and teach the same morals/beliefs and life skills to.

But for amusement, I will often post details on Facebook or AFF about idiots I see/meet in life. Good entertainment!

(BTW, Helensvale is not known for being high on the socio-economic ladder Gold Coast wise... (Not that there are many areas at the top of the list! )

Shrek's off to CMB tomorrow and has asked to borrow my QC 15's. He's never bothered before and has always been happy to use whatever's provided
I have agreed but only on agreement that its a once off arrangement and that if he wants to use them again he first buys me a new pair and gets to keep my old ones ;)

so heres me on the flight to CMB wondering where shrek is
Im in 4 something at the "back" of the cabin and i cant see him in the J cabin
I text him and hes in row 5 on malaysian in a lovely little mini cabin
Ive gone a row back looked at him and gone
"fiona pick your seat???"

he just nodded!

I wouldn't get involved either but I did entertain the thought of calling the police once I was on the train and on my way.

That station is quite dark and the group looked very scary.

I can hazard a guess as to the type of people that live there but best I not make comment on that one.

My home is not far from there, & we do have a fine quality of socio-economic well being & desirable environmental factors.
My suggestion is not to take the train, as I understand many of the youth ride the train at night from other areas & congregate in certain areas, such as Helensvale, Robina & elsewhere.
A private car would be a much more desisired mode of transport IMO.

It was my birthday last week, and I'm really starting to feel
my age.

I'm definitely not young anymore :(

Actually, I will take back that comment. Helensvale (itself) is quite good socio-economic wise (and Census stats back that up! 2011 Census QuickStats: Helensvale )

Agree that a lot of undesirables find their way there due to it being a public transport hub.

Though, also when I lived in London, I also avoided the Tube late at night around High St Kensington, near where I lived.
The cabs were always a treat to get home.

A private car from Gold Coast to Brisbane would cost an arm and a leg.

It was never my intention to be at Helensvale station but that is how things worked out. I have not had any issues travelling on a train from Varsity Lakes so far. I only have one more trip planned back to OOL in May and will reconsider further travel options.

I keep asking myself the question how we have allowed society to degenerate to this point?

Believe me, as a comparative measure & your youthful charismatic appearance You are still young..
Perhaps an increase in the vitamin dose.. Boost juice bars for a start.. Will help.. :D

All 'round, I'd say not a great start to your week, JohnK - I hope it's been better today.
QF this weekend? :)

Not many great starts to my week these days.

Tiger this weekend. The start of bigger and better things....

I keep asking myself the question how we have allowed society to degenerate to this point?

maybe it all starts with people not believing that rules, instructions and procedures apply to them?

what is the difference between a oafish lout saying 'these rules don't apply to me' and a person with status saying 'these rules don't apply to me'?

It starts with part time parents.. the ones who don't care. There are no or little boundaries set for the little darlings (or unwanted spawn) . Then they enter the school culture where punishment is barely allowed, and students are made to feel special (sticker for turning up to school for example) and that the world revolves around them. There is also very little blame given out to them when they do wrong.

Society has huge issues coming up as these children turn into adults. We can already see some of the results on sites like Facebook where prince and princess nothing's feel the world should revolve around them and that they can never be at fault.

[h=1]Mickey Mouse Club' original Annette Funicello dies[/h]Annette Funicello, one of the best-known members of the original 1950s "Mickey Mouse Club" and a star of numerous 1960s "beach party" films, died Monday at a California hospital, the Walt Disney Co. said. Funicello, who was 70, "died peacefully from complications due to multiple sclerosis, a disease she battled for over 25 years," the Disney statement said.

A bit before my time but another memory from the past has gone.
