I thought numbers were not reallocated for a number of years?
If the exchange is close to capacity the number will be reallocated rather quickly. Twice in recent years I have had numbers given to me that had only been dormant for a few months... and the phone calls to the previous owners to top it off.

I'll go you one better.... I had a knock on the door yesterday asking for the previous owner. She helps deliver leaflets for the Conservatives, apparently. When I informed they moved out a few months ago.. I was asked whether I'd like to do it  No thanks:!:

Haha. Well they can only ask :D

Spent all arvo trying to pay an invoice (for my business) that's due today...no one answering the phone. I can only assume they've all taken a long weekend and didn't bother with an answering machine.

Prior to that also I had 2 old ladies on my doorstep... trying to indulge me in the light of life. Must have been the day for the crazies. Who let the dogs out?

Dunno. Although my recent "funny" story was a real estate valuer trying to force her way into this place around 8am a few weeks ago. Next door unit was being sold, and they had to do a valuation on it. Some bozo mistyped the flat number on the sheet, so she thought she was due to be here instead ... And wasn't taking no for an answer!

I can almost do better than that, we were moving office locations and had selected a number then somewhere along the line Telstra had given the same number to another customer. I think after 40 or so calls about our business in the same day the customer said look you can have your number and the customer got a new one.

I also phoned a Telstra agent to cancel a phone, said it would be done quickly still waiting 2 months later, and this agent wants new work from me. Yeah right, slacker, I guess most businesses only see the sales now and not the actual work that needs to be done in the back ground.

Indeed. They've admitted the fault. But wait, they've now just told me their computers are saying that number hasn't been connected for 14 months. When I told them I could get stat decs from CEs of Depts (clients) saying it was connected until 24th April and that I was reporting it to the ombudsmen it's been escalated. Not fixed. I told them to turn off their computers and listen to what I was saying. I have this persons id number and complaint lodged. But all I want is the number back.

I've been trying to get rid of a lot of rubbish recently. I have a coughpy old buffet filled with one entire section of Jnr's x 2 nail polish.

Headed off to Bunnings just after 1pm yesterday (it was chockers) and got a bit of timber & sundries for about $19 and built this on the inside of the old broom cupboard.

It's out of buffet and Jnrs are happy! Over a hundred bottles!

The unfortunate comment from Jnrs "great, there's space for some more".

That's ten bottle per finger!

And if you average the cost out, it's almost $1,000. If we bought all of them in Australia, it would probably average to about $1,500. Must get extra insurance....

I thought numbers were not reallocated for a number of years?

My current home number must've been a fax number in a previous life. I get a couple of fax calls a day. If only there was a way to find out where they are coming from so I can tell them to reprogram their fax machine.

If we don't get our number back, whomever gets it is not going to be happy.

A fax noise would drive me batty. At home I've pulled out the landline. So sick of Indian call centres. Apparently in the call centre there is a list of rude people who are put onto a "do not call" list. I want to get on that list. I'm assuming the call centre training works by making the operators truly believe they are doing us a service when they call. They may have no idea how hated these calls are to us.

In Bali young people hand out leaflets where there is a prize of free lunch and drinks. Mr P was waiting for me outside a 7/11 in Legian once and was chatting to one. That guy asked why people didn't want to stop and get a free meal. They had been taught that they were doing some nice for tourists in doing what they did. Nothing like a bit of propaganda from the trainers.

I somehow how signed up with Telstra and received caller ID and it displays on the phone, so if its not a local number I generally ignore the phone now.

Only about 5-6 people know my home number, and I think more than half of them are AFFers.

I used to have an answering machine but I turned that off as well as I forgot to check it a few times and thought I don't need it; if you need to get hold of me use the mobile.

Check your bill: that Calling Number Display service is probably costing you $6 a month.
I decided it wasn't worth that to me, whereas a Silent Number (and no online or White Pages listing) costing $2.93 p.m. is.
Now, unless I'm expecting a call, I wait for the other person to speak first before I respond, and then it's usually only to say, "Sorry, you have the wrong number."

These take my cake today for "hair tear of the day".

Started working a new experiment today. Lots of water, bit of construction required (duct tape to the rescue), and plenty of blue dye (for tracer). Got quite a bit of blue dye and dyed water on my hands and lab coat, you'd think I was butchering a Smurf.

Lab coat is in the bucket soaking overnight with Napisan.

We're on that list. SWMBO stuffed them up one of them one night so much that he shouted "I don't want to speak to you!" SWMBO just replied "ok" and hung up. Basically we have a game of trying to keep them on the phone for as long as possible without buying anything and to just really annoy them. In the example mentioned they were asking for Mr (mymiddlename). Obvious they want me but she just keep saying nope no one by that name, who do you want?

Anyway, that's our game. It works because they have kpis based on selling things and short phone calls. So long phone call, no sale and word quickly gets around.

Having said that, I'd think those guys do the job because they want to get paid.
