At UNSW we got to site exams in a dis-used bowling alley....

Free cookies to anyone who can connect university examination aspects to the following bowling terms:

  • Strike
  • Gutter ball
  • Spare
  • 7-10 split
  • Perfect game

The only positive thing at all about exams is Melbourne Uni holds them at the Royal Exhibition Building, site of the first national parliament of Australia.
Australian history! So university is not a total waste of time....

I can't remember where I had my university exams; it was that long ago I.

Oops I must be showing my age. :?:

At the end of my first semester at uni, I have 14 exams in 16 days! Now that nearly killed me. Exam rate slowed in subsequent semesters, thankfully.

Unless you are doing something related to medicine, exams are much tamer by that standard.

Our university even passed some time ago that 3 hour exams were not allowed any more - 2 hours is the maximum. I did 2 x 3 hour exams during my degree. One was for civil engineering fluid mechanics - 3 hour open book setting out exam (i.e. basically show all mathematical working to get an answer), which contributed to 66% of the final grade.

The other 3 hour exam was for first year engineering mechanics - 3 hour closed book 30 question multiple choice exam, which contributed to 70% of the final grade. :!::shock::-| Even to this day, you cannot tell me that was a killer of an exam. (So how I passed that course I do not know...) You can also tell why I have a passionate distaste for multiple choice exams, especially in engineering courses.

I went to a paid focus group earlier this evening - coincidentally its in direct relation to QF and travels.

Food servings were similar to those found in the std QP and beverage limited to only soft drink, juice and bottled water.

Biggest whine of the session was; why is it SO difficult to redeem QFF award tickets? [I didn't mention that I redeemed a variety of flights all OK recently and my points balance reduced by 400K in the process]

Another was; [why not cease using cash and] use QFF points to pay for everything instead such as hotels, car hire, flights, food, etc etc.

Interesting comments indeed.

I was only doing Arts in my first year. No exams! :D Though they've since introduced exams for political science. Arts papers are a joke anyway.

Then I didn't know what I was thinking and switched to Arts/Law...

We had numerous three hour exams as part of engineering. Fortunately these were only in the first two years, so by years 3 and 4 we were down to mostly 2 hours - except for General Studies which were only 1 hour.

Got one of my best exam results in a GS exam held half way through our end of semester BBQ. Amazing how a few beers helps the creative thought process.......

3 hours is standard for a Law paper at Melbourne. :(

A few electives I had for LLB included take home final exams where the exam paper was given on Friday and the answers had to be returned the following Monday. So technically this is a 72hour exam! And of course I never had any assistance ;)

Plus our sit-down exams were of 3hrs duration and open book. Its not what you could remember but more of your application of the theory / principles to your answer.

Engineering - tame is not a term I would use to describe those exams.

None were open book exams. Of the 14 exams, 12 were 3-hour exams ad 2 were 2-hour exams. I had two Sundays with no exams. Two 2-hour exams were scheduled for the same day (9-11am and 2-4pm) for different subjects. Others were one exam per day. Talk about continuous cramming followed by brain purge cycle.

As best I can remember, none of the 14 exams were multiple choice. It was over 25 years ago now!

Ah, well with Mrs LW not feeling the best (has an URTI at present), I got some more brownie points (and Amex ones :D) with last nights meal of fillet of rainbow trout (skin on), blanched snow peas, baked sweet potato and sauteed mushmooms.

I also studied engineering, yet there are many people who will take you up on that statement. Believe me, I reckon their foolish to do so.

 I am not worthy. (Now where's an emoticon suitable for that statement)

I remember one piece of exam timetabling excellence where all four of my three hour exams were in the first two days. Two on Monday and Two on Tuesday.

At least you could have an easy week come Tuesday evening
