Hmmm ...do you think AUD pricing is likely to be significantly more? I'm in the market and US bound October

At the current exchange rate I suppose $AUD900 would be the minimum but likely it will be higher - how much higher is anyone's guess.

Cheers for that info. I am looking at the Sony SVP13213 ultrabook range w i5 haswell, 128gb ssd, 4gb ram, 13.3in FHD touch screen for ~$1350. If only it had 256gb ssd, I would have already bought one. Now I'll wait for the Samsung model and compare - hopefully its not too high in the $1,000 range.

You prob already know that Sony do have another Vaio Pro with a 256GB SSD but it's nearly $2000 - annoying to be asked to pay another $650 if you only need the bigger SSD.

FWIW I had narrowed my choice to either the Vaio Pro 13213 or the Thinkpad X1 Carbon Touch with the intention of buying prior to a trip next month - but since I saw the write-ups on the Samsung I've decided to stick with my old clunker for this trip and buy after I return.

Well it might be easy for others to do but I am really happy that I have now set up my television as the second screen for my computer. Now I can watch full episodes of US tv shows on the big screen whilst continuing to read AFF. :)

The $18, 5m HDMI cord from the local Chinese run shop with everything is really useful.

$18?!?! HDMI is one of those crazy things that retailers get away with charging way too much for! I just had a look at our landed cost price on a 5m, $0.93!

$2.40 to a contractor, $2.80 to general public :)

Excellent prices, I thought I got a great price for $18 considering places like JB, Big W et al sell them for >$50.

Even Aldi sold 2m HDMI cables for $7 last week and that is generally considered a very good price.

Retailers make huge money on accessories, especially cables.

It's quite odd because you make the biggest percentage profit on accessories, but the actual dollars profit in is low. But, since you sell more accessories than the big hardware....

What a coughpy couple of days! My unit flooded thanks to a burst water pipe in my kitchen. Naturally, I was not there when it happened so goodbye to my carpet and the majority of my furniture. Worse still is all the damage done to the other units in my block and communal areas.

Not good news :(

Not good news at all. It's the cleaning up after that's a real PITA and you keep finding damaged things months after the event.

from the few glimpses I could see, pale Caucasian ...

... seemed to run out of ideas nears the goal posts ... so just flopped on their belly and waited for the yellow coat tackle ...

I thought his tackle would have been coated in spray tan, like the rest of his sorry ar$e...

I remember back when I was buying our first Big Flat screen. The salesman said, if we buy the surge protector and HDMI cable he'd take an extra 5% off the TV price. $400 worth (yes thats right $400 for them) of accessories to save $275. I told him I can get the same off ebay for about $20.

The biggest con's must surely be those who advertise HDMI cables as "DIGITAL HDMI" cable..like there's any other type.

Am I the only one that thinks Laptops & Ultrabooks are generally overpriced for what you get?
I suspect that Samsung will not offer great prices on the Series 9 when first released. Will have to wait and see.

Personally I'd never touch a Sony or Samsung laptop anyway ;)

Samsung never again...terrible experience here.

I replaced it with a Dell Ultrabook which I am quite happy with. Not without it's faults but the next day onsite worldwide servicing will be worth it if anything goes awry.

And a passing comment...was on QF776 yesterday, very sparsely populated. Concerning, but probably something QF has consciously decided to do in an effort to drive VA down, with 5pm and 6pm A330 departures to MEL.

And how much to ship some to me ? :p :p :p

For that price, I am assuming the aren't OFC, although for a low EM environment that is fine ;)

Sony is kidding themselved asking $650 for an extra 128gb (and I think +4gb ram as well)

Feature wise yes its over priced but one is paying for size and weight. I could get $800 laptops which have more juice but at 3.5kgs .... nahhh :) I checked staticice.com.au for price comparisons and see the Book 9 models at $1250 which is $100 less than an equivalent Sony SVP13213.
