Isn't carers leave still included as part of your sick leave entitlement?

Tell them you are sick for the day. No need to go into details.

Carer's leave comes out of my sick leave. I expect to be able to go back to my Place of Employment tomorrow night but in case I can't, they'll know why (and hopefully I won't have to go back to the doctor again).

I have heard on the rumour mill that management have been ringing sick employees to see if they actually are sick.

I believe my bus driving colleagues have to ring an occupational nurse service & describe their illness when they call in sick.

It is separate leave in principle but it is paid from sick leave. The reasons for taking it are broader, in my experience. For example I've taken carers leave when my wife has had to do something like work (but not been sick) and I've had to care for the children.

To validate the certificate is genuine, or the reason of absence? (I imagine the issuing practitioner won't be forthcoming with information if so)

A bit of both and a little more.

Of course due to patient confidentiality, a doctor cannot divulge exactly the condition that the student had or elaborate on the medical condition. But the medical certificate can be verified as having being signed and dated by the doctor.

Yes, students have been known to forge doctor notes (doctor has no idea patient was issued a cert, or was issued a cert but for the wrong date), and in one case the phone number for the doctor was actually for a person that was planted to be an imposter posing as the "doctor".

That is an interesting one.

Management at my current employer are sort of weird. They think that if you are sick then you need to visit a doctor.

Poor souls do not understand there are a variety of reasons a person can be sick that do not require a visit to the doctor.

Arthritis flaring. Anxiety. Tension headaches. Food poisoning.

And I am not taking the piss but you can be sick until noon and then feel better. I have been told not to come in to work if I am not feeling well in the morning but now feel better and it is past 11:00am.

It has been used dependant on the choice of wording from the employer , regarding carers leave I believe some employers will accept a Stat Dec for a carers leave day if the carer is unable to get to a Doctor.

I had a t-shirt once that said "I ran out of sick days so I called in dead."

It's ironic that the employer would say "be responsible & call in sick if you think that you can't do your job 100% due to injury or illness, go sick. The hoops that you often have to jump through, especially if you get sick mid-shift in my job (you have to speak to at least 2 or 3 managers first) is over the top.

That said, some people have abused it in the past.

.. and people will continue to do so:!:

Oh I do love travel, just had evening drinks in the Conrad BKK Executive lounge and met a couple of European chaps who just happened to be on Flyer Talk and we spent a couple of hours talking flights, lounges and hotels. Who knew we could consume that much Coke Zero?

Good preparation for Thursday night. :)

Just checked....I have nearly 27 weeks' worth of sick leave:shock:. Clearly, i have not been "gaming the system" well enough....

That is a really short trip if you are back on Friday night.

Yes it is but has been relaxing, got here Sat night and leave Wed night.

Have been to Doubletree BKK, HI Ploenchit Road and Conrad BKK. Will post about the Hilton stays in the relevant thread.

Given they live together, and are getting married, it's "their" money anyway. They've just been to Europe so things can't be too bad. I'm thinking I my choose my own present, I'm not against a gift so much, just the listing of a registry on the invite.
I can understand the reasoning behind asking for money - since many couples live together/pool their things/getting married later in life , so likely to be pretty well set up in the house dept. But I LOATHE being asked for money - I always feel they would be running a tape over how much $$ you give, as opposed to just suspecting you're a cheapskate by your gift!Peters of Kensington is my go-to spot, so many specials and the delivery charges to Melbourne still make it worthwhile buyuing. Great specials too.
One gift I give is from Made in Japan, we buy cotton kimonos (yakatas?), in reverse colours, white on navy and navy on white. Kind of groovy and modern.

Easier in my day. 40 years ago when we got married we scored 3 fondue sets - in orange, bright green and bright blue. Verrrry smart.

Relaxing is good.

I need to try and have one of those trips soon instead of trying to wipe myself out everytime.

I love those Yukatas.. So delightfully comfortable..:D
& as for the the pastel fondue sets.. I believe they are back in vogue..
What better to do on a winter day - enjoy a fondue - good company & complemented with some quality schnapps.. ;)
