I was thinking more along the lines of a modern version of the Queen's or Governor's race, or something like The Wacky Races or Around the World in Eighty Days....

There's just not enough money and joy in saying, "Everyone meet at Sydney Town Hall station. The first one to the steps of the German Bundestag wins." :)

And for bonus points... for those who get up to the dome ;)

Now an "Amazing Race" for AFF... that would be quite a riot :p (but fat chance to have enough money or resources to pull it off).

Lots of DYKWIA moments!

Or "I can't fly that carrier? They aren't part of *A!"

It's not every day that your media contact has to cut your conversation short because she's trying to find Amanda Palmer!

The show definitely isn't about cultural awareness for the participants. It is a dramatic show and it is edited (not scripted) to heighten the drama.

It certainly is scripted in so much as the destinations and challenges are set by the producers to provide an outcome (eat weird food, dig in mud, take ride in "dangerous" local transport) etc - the "scenarios" have a predictable outcome for the producers. Not scripted in "told what to say" but the scripted situations lead to predictable results designed to allow for drama-enhancing editing.

So it's part scripting, part editing.

I've always assumed that the destinations are based on who will pay them to visit the country/city/location. Travel show for the viewer, style.

She is playing in AU this month. Great musician, pity I will miss her.

I heard yesterday that she'll be in Sydney over the weekend but I'm here in Brisvegas. My media contact & her walked past me at a great rate of knots earlier.

Good morning from Brisvegas! Housekeeping are getting in early, banging on my door at 0915.

The Bigsound music conference & showcase kicks off today. I've got 3 interviews today & tonight, there's bands in 12 venues in the Valley for me to check out. Same tomorrow.
My brother is there as well for the rest of the week, plus he is helping Billy Bragg (who I think is playing tonight).

My brothers' band name is The Good Ship. He's the one with the long greying hair playing the fool (and the guitar behind the lead singer). Video of their cover of The Decemberists' song "The Rake Song" :D

Not bad....

Amanda Palmer!

Saw the Dresden Dolls when they last played at The Gov in ADL. Must be one of the best shows I have seen in ages.
Standing about one foot away from Amanda when she climbed up on to the bar made me shiver. She gives off such a vibe.
For a 2 piece (plus random guests she gets on stage) the production is amazing. Thinking about seeing her on her upcoming visit.

Thanks for the video QF WP, now there's a bunch of guys and gals having one fun time.

Bigsound has been so awesome. Impossible to see/hear everything, though.

I heard recently a bit of a media brohaha about Amanda's performance at Glastonbury. She had a wardrobe malfunction & one paper wrote an entire review simply about that. Her response that her next gig was classic & a typical response to the review. It's a NSFW song that you should be able to find on YouTube.

The Good Ship is a very good ship. I've played them on my podcast before!

Small world!

Golf a sport? Don't think so. :p
Good golfers are extremely talented at what they do, but so was Jack the Ripper, and I don't think disembowelling women is considered a sport. :)
Cheeky!

Golf is one of the most challenging sports in the world. How do you shoot a 71 to lead the first round of a British Open and then shoot 86 in second round to miss cut?

I have never been able to master golf but I will keep trying.

Not a sport? Beats Facebooking, tweeting any day. And as they say the worst day on a golf course is much better than the best day in the office.

P.S Looking forward to playing Kilmore and Goonawarra on the weekend with the members....

Reality TV by definition is real life shown on TV. If sport is real, then sport on TV must be reality TV. Therefore by your definition sport is poorly scripted fairytales.

Still given your proclaimed avoidance of reality TV, I'm not sure that definition is authoritative.
What you, and the networks, define as reality TV is just poor scripted drama. Can't afford real actors or top scripts so they scrape the bottom of the barrel and voila! Reality TV.

Now do not confuse "Reality TV" with live sports. Nothing similar other than the equipment used to film it and view it.

And I have seen enough of it to know it is not worth wasting my time on it.

Not everybody wants to watch scripted drama with actors all the time.

I really don't like almost all 'reality' TV that I've been exposed to, including stuff like Survivor, Amazing Race, Big Brother, Farmer Wants a Wife etc. (I might add that exposure has been necessarily brief, otherwise I would have topped myself). For me, it is execrable TV.
That said, I somehow got drawn into 'Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares' even though I find him fairly loathsome. :o I also don't mind the Motorway Patrol type shows and of course Airways, though they are a somewhat different genre.

I have NEVER claimed sport onnTV is "Reality TV".

You seem to repeatedly miss my point, which has nothing to do with the networks and has nothing to do with poorly scripted anything. If you cannot notice the I have consistently written reality TV and have never used "Reality TV" then I have nothing further to say. Besides that love sport on TV is reality TV by common english definition.

If the hotel has a DND sign, I'm a massive fan of using it.

Maybe admin can sell DND signs for those times the hotels (like the one I'n in) don't have one...

Here was my solution to the lack of a DND sign this morning. It kind of worked - housekeeping still knocked but she knew exactly what I wanted...
