Sometimes, my faith in humanity returns:

Bus driver saves the life of woman on Buffalo bridge - Yahoo!7

Every so often, normality prevails :D

Then the next story I read brings that all crashing down and I question the lack of common sense in others:

I just wished I read more of the first stories than the latter.

Then my feel good story for the day to put a smile on my face:

Thank you all for your well wishes here and elsewhere.

Gee, work got you under a knife much?

Is work that important?

It is hard for me to be absent from work currently, as there is nobody to backfill me when absent.

From memory you havn't had a good run recently.
I hope that all is ok for you, our health is perhaps the most important thing we have.

Indeed, this year has had a lot of health problems. Here is hoping 2014 is a healthier year.

Wow, what a turn of events. Talk about going from 1 extreme to the other. This week I started with close to nothing... I'm now ending it with just about everything. Landed a new job starting in the new year and also landed a contract to see me through from now till the end of the year.

Congratulations. I am glad things are looking up :)

Unfortunately humanity took the wrong turn a while back.

Not sure i agree..the world continues to progress at a rate of one day per day, and the births to deaths ratio has remained fairly static for a long time..

Nothing has actually changed.

Anyone else who is annoyed by Halloween.
The Americanisation of Australia marches on.

Doorbell batteries have had a bashing this evening ...

we have it sorted in our neighbourhood! parents with children drop off supplies (sweets etc) to selected houses the day before and then return with their children for trick or treat between 530 and 730pm. then that's it for the night! works well!

+1 I don't understand why we need to adopt other countries holidays next will be Thanksgiving.

Next year I'm going to tell the kids on our street to only go to each others houses. That keeps us who have no interest in it out of it.

Absolutely! I have made the mistake a couple of times in recent years of saying so in response to American FB friends H-related posts in recent years, only to cop a mild bollocking. Have read many differing views on it and have decided my main cough with it is that with other imported festivals or traditions (e.g. St Patrick's Day) I can choose to go and celebrate it or not - Halloween, in the manner many people choose to celebrate it, comes to me whether I want it to or not. I don't have children people, why should I be responsible for entertaining yours? (I know I sound curmudgeonly, I'm not really...really! :) )

Yep, it seems Woolworths and Big W are the worst offenders when it comes to pushing Halloween down our throats!

Some pagans in Australia are upset as Halloween is a Northern Hemisphere autumn festival celebrating the end of summer and we are heading into Summer.

Are you able to concentrate on your golf at all with all those distractions? ;)

Yes, I went in there yesterday morning and the checkout chicks were all dressed in costumes. I couldn't find anything nice to say so I didn't mention it.

I once spent a Halloween in Canada and it was lovely. The kids were all so cute in their costumes! :) It was also cold and much darker than it is here. It seems far more appropriate over there. But the other thing is: the shops were nuts with orange and black stuff! And the very next day, it was gone and the Xmas stuff was in the windows. Grrr at it all.
