Now I have a question - mother in law going to LHR on Fridya via Hong Kong on Qantas (dont know exact flight number yet)

The ticket has been purchased (with money not points) in business class, I think the class is (I)???

Anyway, my question is, if you pay for a business class seat, what are the chances of being bumped up to first?

I understood that sometimes they will bump a paying pax up a class to make more room in the lower class....anyone able to help out with an answer on that?

It all depends. Mainly it has to do with luck, right place at the right time, but also status plays a part in who gets any op-ups. Most times Qantas will not hand out op-ups just for the sake of handing out op-ups.

Does your mother in law have any status?

BTW This reply box is way over on the right hand side. I had to scroll over twice just to get to it. Please resize the last photo?

The photo is not one I posted. I am sure one of the mods can get on and fix it soon...

Thanks for the info, will look into her status, might be silver... will check though.

Currently sitting in OOL transit lounge area waiting for the second leg of JQ20 OOL-SYD. It has got progressively busy and my flight has just been called.

Luckily so, too, there is almost no air flowing here! Pretty stuffy and suffocation material right here.

In addition, the wifi here is not only extortionate, but it absolutely sucks in quality.

Ouch, it could have taken ages to load that image then ...

(Note the image is 4.2Mb)

I have changed the embedded image to a url link.

Assuming QF29, the loadings are such:

RC F9 A9 J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 T9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 X9 E5

... that tells me there is little chance of an operational upgrade for oversell reasons.

w00t a change of luck.

OLCI'ed for QF2727 for tomorrow and it looks like an aircraft with J seats, so I moved up into 1D.

Quite odd that 1D/2ACDF were all available - you'd think that those J seats would be knocked up pretty quickly. (My original prealloc seat was 3F)

Nup,

only those with "status" get to select from those seats online.

I'd go for 1F if available - great views of Mt Taranaki as you head down the island ... maybe even better as the sun starts to set ... (no snow but)

Hmmm...I know someone else who has status but could really use better luck with getting those J seats.

1F is taken...2F any good?

Yup, 'tis fine (1F has two windows, 2F has between 1½ and 2 depending on whether 1F PAX reclines)

I later checked the QF website and it seems that the bag drop time limit is 30 minutes before departure time, not 45 minutes.

I always thought it was 30 mins. I've checked in with baggage at T -20mins once before and got on the flight. Check in guy was really nice.. I even offered to take the next flight (30 mins later), but he said,"i'll have none of that, I'll get you on this flight!"

43.2?? That all??

45.1 in Melbourne (although at 24 at the moment....)

Great state Victoria - falls to bits when there is a bit of warmth!

(Connex. Enough said)
My car was saying 45deg but that's not quit as official. It was showing 45 deg yesterday as we taxied out. It dropped to 40deg at 500 ft :!:

Errr yesterday I checked in online for my flights SYD-MEL-HBA-MEL-SYD which are for today BUT I woke up and decided not to fly

I had 3x calls at 550am (which is 10minutes before the 1st flight out) which I assume was QF trying to find where the heck I am?

What a way to blow away $145 and the opportunity to earn 40sc and 4000 qffp. Ahhh never mind, that's my gamble gone not in my favour.

From memory temperature drops roughly 2 degrees for every 1000ft. Mind you the tarmac would have been roasting...

I flew this morning from MMB (finishing a check flight) and it was around 28 degrees on the ground, however the runway was still that hot that when i flew over it on finals the lift the plane got was incredible... Took a bit to get used to it!

I don't get that. You didn't want to fly?

I guess it isn't often one shrugs in bed and decides that getting up is worth risking $145, but whatever floats your boat.

Forgive me, but I'm trying to understand why you did this? You're lamenting not being able to earn 40 SCs and 4000 points, but you elected not to fly?

And how did you only lost $145 if you were flying SYD-MEL-HBA-SYD?
