What's an N series, is that one with a chip? Got our chip pps a few years ago but even doing it at DFAT in CBR took 10 biz days.

Basically a passport that starts with N. It's not the first series to have a chip, but the design certainly looks a bit different to the rest of my family who have M series passports. (My previous passport was an L series).

Well, its life long learning (lol). I hadn't realised my current pp (N) had a totally different number from the old one (L). Just looked at my original British (black) pp and noted its number was only six digits 16****, almost as low as my QFF number.

I liked my M passport better, the N one just doesn't feel like its the right colour.

OK, as soon as I know, I will pass on to you. I believe YP are coming to our office on Friday, I don't normally work on a Friday (housework has to get done) so may be next Monday before I have any info.
Thanks a million Bindi - greatly appreciated.

Yep. I must say, very pleased with the turnaround times in the UK!

My old (non-chip) was a very early M series. The new one (chip) is a very late N series

Start > run > inetcpl.cpl
Connections > LAN Settings - see if there is anything in there e.g. it may have hijacked and setup a local proxy
Start > run > cmd /k ipconfig /all - check your DNS settings as well in case anything there has changed
Also might be worth doing Start > run > cmd /k netsh int it reset c:\reset.log
Thanks heaps. I owe you a beer. Or orange juice.

The ad blocker had checked to use an automatic configuration script and I didn't specify to allow it to start automatically on start-up.

I liked my old L series passport. I could remember the number without needing to open it up when filling in the forms. On one business trip to Malaysia, I had to provide my passport to the building security people when I completed the paperwork for a building pass. When they gave me my pass (and returned my passport), they handed me a piece of paper with my security PIN code to use when entering the building. I looked at the number and said "at least that is easy to remember, its my passport number" and his face turned red as if I was not supposed to recognise that fact.

Same with my current L series passport. Still have another 6 years to go. ;)

I'm surprised if the ad blocker did that. (Maybe it was a co-install with the ad blocker). An ad blocker would be bananas if it thought re-routing traffic through a dedicated proxy at the local settings level was an effective means of blocking ads on any given system. Either that or your ad blocker was more nefarious than you judged it to be.

So you can do the same with any other passport?

I have to admit it took a couple of times before I could remember my new N series number off by heart, but funny enough the numbers seem to follow a certain pattern. So remembering it after a while is simple. (You also get sick of looking at it when filling out forms, so you learn to have it by rote fairly quickly, a la "necessity is the mother of all invention").

I could remember one of my credit card numbers by heart. I have had 2 cards re-issued since Xmas last year due to them being compromised.

My brother has used this ad blocker without issue for long time. It is by ChrisPC.

Really strange things are happening to this laptop. Hotmail/Outlook used to display the ads on the right side. Now the ads are not displaying but a blank window (with 'ads not by this site' on the bottom) has overlayed the beginning of each page and I am unable to see the first 3-4 emails on each page. :(

I can see this is going to take a while. I think it is time for new laptop and just keep this Windows XP laptop for old programs that do not run on new operating systems.

I liked my M series one too, it was *very* simple to remember, had only 4 different numbers and big clumps of each number :D

Already memorised my new one. Fairly simple, but not as simple as my old one. That being said ... I hardly ever have to write it out as I very rarely enter Australia anymore, so I really am just remembering it for remembering sake

I know there's others out there - possibly even the Spybot Search & Destroy web protect does a similar job where it just enters all the hostnames of ad servers into your HOSTS file and blocks that way e.g. for each hostname it will just enter 127.0.0.1 localhost, so the ad will just display as blank if at all (dependent on the type of ad). Glad to hear the internet is working now at least *thumbs up*

Almost had a hearty when I got my latest pp - last 5 numbers are ALL same - even a mental midget like me could not forget it if I tried.

Interesting that Malwarebytes is not detecting all these issues. I remember seeing the 127.0.0.1 mentioned somewhere on Google. I will slowly work through the list.

not quite a movie, but a tv series, of which season four is about to start in April. The TV show doesn't strictly follow the storyline of the books, but is an adaptation of the main elements and characters.

No, just the closest I've come to watching a movie - unless childrens' ones are allowed (if so, then Rise of the Guardians I have watched 3 or 4 times with my kids - just brilliant).

The 2 chapters I read were pretty good. Then MTE told me that they were from the second book in the series so she bought me book 1 (the sort with paper, ink, etc...)
Which I started but then left on my bedside table in TSV. Pretty disappointing when I'm in NKG for a few months...

How do post a link to a single post? For example, if I wanted to refer people to this very post, I would say check out this post, and post a hyperlink specifically to this post, rather than the page and say look at post 32476. As far as I can work out it has something to do with altering the URL but I'm not sure how.

If you click the post number at the top right of your post it will give a specific URL for that post to be at the top of the page
