Any thoughts on Suncorp Contents insurance. Got a heap of quotes and they come in at only about $190, compared to everyone else at $250-$400. Similar excess and cover levels.
Suspicious!
Otherwise, any advice on contents only insurance; things to look for?

I don't think it is suspicious. They have had an aggressive marketing campaign on Home & Contents recently. The market is flooded with Insurance providers. Now is a good time to be shopping around for deals.

How do post a link to a single post? For example, if I wanted to refer people to this very post, I would say check out this post, and post a hyperlink specifically to this post, rather than the page and say look at post 32476. As far as I can work out it has something to do with altering the URL but I'm not sure how.

If you click the post number at the top right of your post it will give a specific URL for that post to be at the top of the page

I have wondered this too. Thanks.

The only thing I can say is that they were one of very, very few companies that paid out on the QLD floods Public fury over flood insurers

FWIW if I lived in a flood zone they + Westpac would get my money!

Very unlikely to flood here in Perth.

To tell the truth, I don't even believe in "rain". I've never seen it happen, water falling from the sky and all.

Quite a few Australians have wished for rain and then were surprised by just how much rain came.
Our business in Perth got flooded when the drainage in the suburb failed. It was only 300 mm through our whole warehouse and office.
We moved to our own building in another suburb and we are higher and drier.

Tonight on ABC's The Checkout frequent flyer programs came in for a beating and represent poor value "unless you are a sophisticated user of the program". Does that mean I am now sophistimacated?

The problem you sometimes get here is that the consumer groups (God save their sycophantic souls) may campaign against the airlines and hotels to greatly simplify the frequent flyer/guest loyalty systems, impose mandatory standards for rewards (e.g. someone who does so and so flying or spend must unconditionally be guaranteed an Economy return ticket) or force much greater and detailed explanations of loyalty programme facets.

I've always thought of you JessicaTam as being very 'sophistimacated' :) esp after your recent Firenze/Malta trip.

Watched the ACI of QF32 on the weekend (FOXTEL/Nat Geo). RDC was terrific, the plane interior setups looked dodgy, and a number of key reasons RDC flew it as he did as mentioned in the book were overlooked. But I thought it was on a par with most ACI episodes, and RDC was very good as was MH And DE.

I watched this too..have not read the book. I've got to say I came out thinking the FO was the person that made the difference.

We have our flood-prone investment property (former home) and our not-flood-prome home are with Suncorp for that reason.
After bitted experience and many tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on the old house in insurance work, I stick with them. I'm not interested in nickel and diming on home insurance. Others further away from bodies of water may feel differently :)

Telemarketers are annoying. Ever heard of "no means no"? (I shouldn't be so surprised - when I worked in retail we actually were trained to understand that "'no' doesn't mean 'no!'").

Times like these I wish I'd kept that recording of a very high pitched tone to play loudly into the phone.

On another note, any Brisbanites been annoyed by a company called Zen Connect?

The Rolling Stones aircraft is currently on its way to the UAE, wonder if they have a booking at one of my favorite Hilton's overlooking the Bateen airport?

Suncorp underwrite RACT insurance in Tas & I insure many things with them. They aren't the cheapest but they are great to deal with when you have to claim. I understand a lot of the people in last years Tas bushfires were underwritten by Suncorp & they responded well. I am happy to pay more for RACT/Suncorp because when I mention what suburb I live in I don't have to explain what State I live in. I am firmly of the opinion you get what you [pay for with insurance. Also, never underestimate your contents - walk around your house & have a think about how much it would cost to replace everything, it will be a lot more than you think.
