Yeah you're not taking sides. How many people? Meetings suggests there'd have to be at least some Ministerial staff as well.

Interesting how people claim to be interesting in government by picking on politically motivated things like this but ignore real waste in government. Paid parental scheme in the new age of non-entitlement?

No doubt it isn't a waste of taxpayer money to fly from Perth to cairns with your wife to settle an investment property.

Was he made to repay her costs?

Yes, still valid if no expiry date, w' or w'out hologram.
So doing a final clean of the office yesterday and came across some Qantas Club Members Guest Pass
... However there is no expiry or hologram like the ones I've had before with credit cards etc

Does anyone know if they're valid? I would say they're from 2006/7...

Those of us who have tumbled down to LTS, or will never reach the dizzy heights, will be very sad to hear this, although yes, guests passes are no longer of any use.

Bugger, chucked mine out, must have had 30 or 40, but I think mine were only guest cards so could only be used in tow of a member.

Having 30 or 40 almost certainlymeans there were the guest passes, not invitations. I had over 100 at one stage, many of them the royal blue of the 90's.

My Golden Wing Club Member's Guest passes are blue and white. I have a heap of those if you need them :)

I was not taking sides. This just happened to be Labor this time around but could just as easily be Liberal next time around.

It was for 2 people and the sort of figures quoted for a 10 day trip is exorbitant. Simply not good enough.

Maybe she was good enough to spend our money on JohnK. Clearly Greg Combet thought so.

Was he made to repay her costs?

Who? and Who?

Still the question remains, why is use of allowances within the guideline even an issue versus blatant ripping off the taxpayer in contravention of the guidelines?

I agreed you're not taking sides. But still waiting to read similar from you about a non-ALP politician. You might think it was exorbitant, but apparently it was within the relevant guideline allowance. Like I said, better to start by stopping those that rip off travel allowance by not following the rules.

BTW Serfty has not answer the question about whether there were ministerial staff on the trip as well. Only linked to a story about one other person on the trip that doesn't answer my question.

Just an update for any wanting to know the outcome, my mum had her operation on Thursday she opted for a bi-lateral mastectomy (is that what its called? both off?), she flew to sydney the weekend before and went to the easter show because she always wanted to go, and the surgery was done in orange where she is currently still recovering. There was a lot of fluid coming out of the wound yesterday and today so her scheduled release of tomorrow might not go ahead. She is going to have home visits by nurses (who will need to make a 40 minute each way trip from the nearest town to her home) and has a follow up appointment on the 13th of May. She doesn't yet have any of the results so we don't know if there is chemo or any further treatment coming. She is missing her animals and sleeping on her side, is sick of people sitting and looking at her and just wants to chill out with my dad and their animals. She is happy to finally be rid of the burden of larger breasts. So all in all doing pretty well. Thank you all again for your wise words and thoughts.

Speedy recovery hopefully and hopefully the news will be all good.

Wasn't the offending pollie made to repay the cost of his wife's flight?

If ministerial staff travelled First and stayed in lavish hotels then even worse.

We are throwing money away. He should have travelled economy and had an extra day either side to get to/from conference. Maybe then we will get people in politics who want to do good rather than trying to line their pockets with freebies.

Politicians are wasting money and then telling us we need to work until 70 as there isn't enough to go around.

Just a good news story.I get home yesterday and mrsdrron tells me that there is a little lizard dead in a large pot of water.Didn't worry as I presumed just a little skink.she said it had been there several days.
So this evening as we were going out to dinner and she told me to get rid of the corpse.I am surprised to find it was one of my family of blue tongues. Was lifeless so I put it out in the garden. As soon as it was on the ground it started breathing.
When we came home from dinner it had gone.
What a survival instinct.

This afternoon was a puckingly good afternoon of ice hockey. Adelaide beat Sydney in a shootout.

You're assuming another animal didn't appreciate the home delivery of a ready to eat meal.
