Further update on my mum - Trip to Cairns is off (I just paid the final instalment for the private apartment), Dr appointment today confirmed she has the aggressive cancer and will need the next surgery ASAP - moved to Monday (had been penciled in for the day after our Cairns trip), they don't have a time yet, followed by 3 months Chemo immediately and then 1 year of "some other treatment" to quote my Dad.
Rough day for them I guess, they only got the news tonight and then they had to drive 3 hours home via the home care nurse suffice to say they haven't processed it yet.
Given that I have the treatment plan now and its over a year I will stop with the updates.
Thanks all for the help and support and advice. It has helped me a lot, which in turn kept me strong and normal around my mum - which is what she wants.
I'm a mess right now.
We were planning to get engaged - the ring design was put in mid march - but now it feels contrived… I want the ring so we will.
I don't know if my sister will still come but I will still go to Cairns, I might cancel the 6 week trip to EU and Canada/America (USDM redemption) and maybe just book a 1 week trip for my cousins wedding. I don't want to be away for 6 weeks, but my cousin was counting on me and I want to be there for her as well.

I wonder if Pushka experienced something close to this on her recent trip

Keep us in the loop, and feel free to ask for help anytime. We may all have our differences at times when it comes to matters frequent flyer, but we are all the same when it comes to health and family.

I suspect having some time away will be just as important as being there for your mum, even if it's just to recharge and get perspective on things. Take care.

All the best shellthom. It's a tough ride but take it a day at a time.

Could I suggest that wherever possible, try not put your life on hold. Get engaged if that's what you'd planned. Families need to have joyous times too in the midst of angst.

the plan is still to get engaged, the ring isn't finished yet, and i haven't been asked but i am working on the announcement/invites and getting all of the decorations etc
ive been planning the invitations for a year lol. but i turned 30 in april so i wanted to be engaged before then, then we got the news so i told the jeweller not to rush my ring... it should be finished this week.

Just purchased tickets to The View from the Shard in London for 11:30am next Monday.
Crossing fingers for a nice day to enjoy the view.

I'd suggest that you go to Costco but I don't think you have one over there.

Do Costco still have a "members only" policy to going into their store? I remember one cold Seattle morning and all we wanted was some shelter, DENIED.

My fingers are crossed, but London has had decent showers over the last few days. Is expected to turn into a heatwave by end of Month. Hopefully you find sunshine.

Please let me know what you think of the experience. As a local, I baulk at the price they want to charge (many locals are the same, as a form of protest), but will end up there eventually I am sure.

Yep, and no membership, no buying. Even if you go in with a friend, you still can't purchase.

Thanks Mal, we will b back in London from 22 - 24 june (after several weeks of Island hopping in Scotland) was expecting warmer weather then.

I hate public transport.

I have a 2:30pm appointment at the dentist in Spring Hill. I am still on the train at Toowong. No idea when it is leaving.

If I leave train now and go back to work Gocard will charge md $5 or $10 because it thinks I am rorting the system and waste time to get my moneyback.

Apparently dentist also charges for appointments you don't keep.

QLD Rail appreciates my understanding. Yeah right.

All trains are shut down through the CBD due to an overhead power issue at Bowen Hills, if you get off you wont get a fine.

Delays of up to 40mins on entire QR network due to overhead power issue in Brisbane CBD. http://bit.ly/1v2yRfr #qr

Thanks. Missed my dental appointment and will see another dentist at 4:00pm. Not happy with that outcome.

Went to Auchenflower and now back at Toowong. Helps get the 9 trips up so I can rort this stupid system.

I apologise if my miserable luck has affected anyone seriously.

JohnK - Looks like you affect the train system in the same way as you affect the airlines!:shock::p
