CNN reports there's 100 days to go before Scotland decides if it wants to be part of the UK or not.

What do we think about that?

As someone with Scot heritage but no deep understanding of the political situation I think independence sounds great in theory but probably isn't practical. Glaswegian colleagues feel the same.

And RIP Rik Mayall, I grew up a massive fan of bottom

No heritage here, and I have no connection to Scotland.

My thoughts are similar to yours. Great in theory, but in practice will be very messy....

I'm a late comer to Game of Thrones and am working my way through the series. I have to avoid the internet in general for that. Once it has been shown on free to air then you just have to expect people will discuss shows, sports etc. I wouldn't think to look for a specific thread to throw in a comment about an exciting sports event.

I did get cranky one morning when Survivor final had been aired in the USA and was going to be shown in Australia the next night. Of course you could find the winner if you looked on the internet. But I'd deliberately not gone online that day. So some knob rang up the morning radio or maybe it was even the radio people and announced the winner in advance. 12 weeks of watching snuffed out like that.

I was in Singapore, which is my second home (sort of :p)

I have a fault with a battery-powered alarm clock which I purchased through one of those deal-of-the-day websites. It's 9 months or so old now.

Do you think it is reasonable that such an appliance should work as intended for a minimum of 12 months?

Even if the supplier says no, I would think the ACCC would suggest otherwise ... think of the recent Apple "scandal" around warranty.

Well, the ACCC works on a "reasonableness" test, which is kind of why I asked.

I would think it is reasonable that an appliance like that should last at least 12 months without fault... certainly people think (and the ACCC may agree) that more sophisticated (more expensive) consumer electronics should last about 2 years or so, which was the basis for ACCC action / advisement.

Just plotting some defences as it seems the supplier is going to be playing a bit hard ball. Yes I know it's just a freaking alarm clock, but.......

It's a matter of principle as you say. Yes, I think an electronic device should last at least 12 months.
