Being on the DNC register doesn't stop 'charities', as they are exempt from the regs? on annoying people.

I usually give to door to door collectors who appear to have the appropriate ID (Salvos, Vinnies,Smith Family). Our house has 39 steps (I engineered it this way) from the road to the front door. I give charity workers who make it to the door either a red or a gold note, depending on their charity. I'm surprised at the very appreciative gratitude they express on receiving the note. Those to whom I have proffered the gold note often ask whether I want change. (err no)

Often I give them a glass of water too. :)

And for the other "unwanted ones", do you push a button whereupon the steps slant turning them into a slope, and a pack of hounds is released? ;) :p

Speaking of Malta. I heard some awful news yesterday. A friend at the gym had just returned from Malta for a business conference. Her husband returned feeling slightly unwell and after a couple of days his wife convinced him to go to the Drs. He was admitted to Hospital immediately but a day or so later he had died! This is the second person I have heard who died less than a week after returning overseas in the last 6 months. And they were both 57.

Hmm.About 15 years ago a very good friend of mine went to Malta-age early 60s.came back to the hotel one night feeling unwell with flu like symptoms.Worse the next morning his wife organised to get back to London that day.Admitted to hospital(helped that he trained there). No diagnosis really made but obviously an encephalitis type illness and he has been left fairly deaf with no balance and memory problems-had to retire.Wonder about some strange bug on Malta.

I remember my last trip there, waking up feeling a little ill in the morning.... definitely something in the 'water' there!

I think I got spotted by an AFFer when changing trains at Paddington this afternoon. I guess I should expect to be recognised based on the contents of my trip reports. LOL.

Back online after the isolation of the remote Mahale Mts NP in Tanzania.

The trek to the chimps was pretty solid. At this time of the year they tend to be fairly high in the mountains, but this time it was exceptionally far.

Generally people leave camp after breakfast and are back by lunch. We left camp at 0830 and returned at 1700h. But it was well worth it! The camp staff said this was about the limit of what is possible. Only three of the eight pax on the tour managed it - moi was one. Glad I'm into clean living and not reading the wine and champagne threads ;).

Awesome is the only descriptor! Details will follow in my TR when I get home.

Arrived in Malawi today and we had some adventures with immigration because of the Swiss pax who need a visa (Australians don't). Pretty stressful, but nevertheless amusing, at the time but the stuff of great dinner party conversation in the future.

Staying at an awesome place on an island in Lake Malawi. Time for a total chill before the game-spotting adventure continues in Botswana and Zambia the day after tomorrow.

You spend so much time at my various haunts in London (Paddington, Waterloo, London bridge, etc) that I'm surprised I haven't seen you ;)

GSO - Greensboro, North Carolina, USA. US Airways Club lounge. Where the desk staff are also the bar tenders. I like it.

I'll keep an eye out next time you're in MEL :p

Hi, not sure if any of the older(established) members know that AFF do a weekly gazette, 06-11-2014 - Platinum Privileges to Decline?

I may have had my AFF Flight tracker mentioned in this weeks gazette.:eek:
