Wisdom = old? :p

There's intelligence. There's street smart. There's clever. There's wisdom. All subtly different.

Great analogy, Pushka. I used to think of it as Street Smart vs Book Smart; there are people who can learn things from textbooks, and spew them out perfectly in exams, but then try and get them to manipulate that knowledge to a real world situation, and they stutter or trip up... then there are others, who may not ace an exam, but have the knack of being able to see how what they learned works in the real world.

Most of us are good at something. Sometimes, society places great financial value on it. Sometimes greatly inflated value. Other times, people are grossly undervalued - hello to all the police, firemen, nurses, midwives, ambos, teachers, etc etc etc. Those are the people who should be earning what our sports stars do, IMO. Imagine if that was the case - a world where everyone was clamouring to get a career in community based roles...

And then of course there's the salaries our corporate kingpins earn....

I'd take that further. I wish those heroes of society (nurses, teachers, emergency services, volunteers etc ) were the ones who received those National Awards and NOT afl players and cricketers who currently receive a salary in the stratosphere.

Did you miss the memo? All that counts is hard work! Those would work hard get rewarded. It's got nothing to do with study or smarts or any of that rubbish. Work hard.

*goes to lodge a claim for hard work pay for digging ditches and bashing track.

Confirmation today that Sydney is once again my home from next week, at least for the working week. My parents last night pointed out I might need some new winter clothes, considering I was wearing track pants purchased in 2002 and had a Sydney 2000 Olympics jumper on. Cold weather gear goes the distance in Brisbane!

Great sale on with BA right now. After the Avios part pay discount, 115 GBP return for 2 people to Helsinki (40 TP return in whY) is pretty decent. Also nabbed Malaga and Warsaw for a similar cash outlay.

New job (obviously)? Congratulations!

Yes (thanks), after 8 months off. Now I will have the money but not the time to travel, arrrghhh.

Yep...can't have them both :)

I'm looking forward to going to work again, too. The move, culture, language and climate shock will be an additional challenge...
