Did an SQ Suites run to London and back out of Singapore. Eleven Suites passengers going to London and only three on the way back. I just cannot figure the varying loads. Is it Wimbledon or the races with Lizzie?

I guess QF isn't the only airline fighting for survival Singapore Airlines Profit Falls 60% - WSJ

"Singapore Airlines reported its third straight year of falling yield, or revenue per passenger for every kilometer flown. Passenger yield, an important measure of a carrier's revenue and pricing power, fell 2.6% in the recently ended financial year to 11.1 Singapore cents, according to the airline."

"Singapore Airlines said it filled 78.9% of its seats in 2013-14 fiscal year, when it needed to achieve a passenger load factor of 82% to break even."

It's definitely not kosher. But that's not important right now. Isn't the celebrate after Ramadan? As in the happy bit happens afterwards, not during.

Is it just my imagination or has Brisbane been really cold the past few days? I do not remember it this cold in my 6 years in Brisbane.

Winter is finally here - well at night anyway.

Daytime is beautiful

Just remember you soft Northerners, the temperature has been up to 10c lower in MEL not to mention the wind chill that has made the temp seem like it is 0C.

The breaking of the fast at night is celebrated with banquets and family gatherings, known as Iftar it's probably what Woolies were aiming at.

And I'm going to be in Dubai next week. Not looking forward to 45 degree temps and no drinking of water in public places. As I'm not going to public toilets just to get a drink of water during the day there's not much touristing to be done.

I'd thought of doing afternoon tea at the Burj al Arab but even the champers has been replaced with grape juice. I wonder if the windows will be covered up.

Just 3 nights thankfully and staying in a Club room at the IC so that will be our daylight haunt.

I followed all the niceties but was not aware of the not drinking water in public. There seemed to be groups of people sitting here and there drinking water etc when I was there and it was only 35C.

It's a golden rule not to drink anything in public. Including water.

They may have been aiming at that, but I was referring to Eid-al-fitr

Eid al-Fitr - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eid al-Fitr (Arabic: عيد الفطر‎ ʻĪd al-Fiṭr, IPA: [ʕiːd al fitˤr], "festival of breaking of the fast"), also called Feast of Breaking the Fast, the Sugar Feast, Bayram (Bajram), the Sweet Festival[SUP][3][/SUP] and the Lesser Eid, is an important religious holidaycelebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm).

They party after sunset every night during Ramadan. It's apparently very festive but just no smoking or (always) no alcohol.

Then come the end of Ramadan it's another feast altogether. We've been in Bali during this time and the Island is full of holiday makers from Java. It's quite a site seeing hundreds of people with women in full hijab lined up along the edge of the beach. They don't go in for a swim. They just stand there. En Masse. The local Balinese dislike this period even more than they dislike the boozing Aussie tourists. It's interesting to see their racism actually.

I was in Turkey during the Eid last Sep/Oct and dealt w' the inconvenience of things being closed etc. But, I remembered with a jolt when I walked down a quiet laneway and saw the animals being slaughter in people's back yards. I averted my eyes.

Oh dear. I hope I don't find those streets. I really hope I don't. I think that's why I didn't really take to Vietnam. I had to look away all the time from meat stores that had a dog on the window. And then I saw a crate of dogs. Just wanted to go home.

Interesting the different things cultures do or don't do. And I know we westerners are exactly the same.

....then I saw a crate of dogs. ...

I respect cultural differences, and the fact that every time any of us travel away from home, we are guests.

But I just can´t take the eating dogs thing. :(
