For the job which I am taking up in five weeks time in Switzerland, one of the questions I was asked was my marital status.
I believe this answer has some tax implications.
From my experience submitting job applicatioms for work experience in Germany, the standards fpr what is and isn't asked, and what is and isn't put on a CV are different in Europe to what we're used to. We had to attach photos to our applications, and all CVs needed to be no more than one page long.
That being said, once an EU employer has certain data about you, they cannot relese that data. I asked HR for a list of staff in our Moscow office before going there 3yrs ago, and due to EU privacy regs, they wouldn't release that info.
