The totally off-topic thread

Finally signed my 2007/08 tax return yesterday, so Accountant will have lodged it. Mrs LW is very happy with the sizeable refund (plus associated $900 bonus that we both get) ;). Have to love tax deductions.
Good news. :) I was happy that my tax returns have been completed until I received the bill from the accountant today. :(

Speaking of windfalls and tax, I finally put the boot in at work yesterday and escalated to the top my unpaid commissions. Result : monies backdated for 3 months ago finally paid today, although to a massive tax hit.

Which I won't get back for 12 months now, cos they weren't put throgh in the last financial year (they year they were actually earned in).

Grumble.

Gee - I'm out of free email range for only a week and look what happens - the OTT goes crazy!

1-On the wagon
2-no snacks(groan)
3-Increased exercise level.
The problem is that even though I am confident I can do it 6 weeks is about the maximum time for the weight coming off.I then plateau for about 6 weeks before a slower rate of loss establishes.
Problem 2-I will be in the USA celebrating so by the time I return from that trip I will be where I am now.Yes I know I am just one big yo yo.

No F Lounge for you! :p

I have lost 4.1kgs over 5 weeks since Ozfest VI in Cairns. Actually it was 4.1kgs over 4 weeks and in the 5th week my weight stayed the same.

Well done!

I suggest everyone read page 10!

Why? ;)

All it contains is a bunch of one-line posts, Mal's 500th, and the realisation of the OP that this thread was doomed to run out of control. Doth he feel the wrath of discomfort and shame now? I highly doubt it.

I wouldn't do it, read the whole thread, I got better things to do.

Reading the whole thread?! Get real. Although I did quite a bit of that to amuse myself before I joined AFF (and then I joined to get more than I bargained for :p).

And yes, if I was savvy enough, I'd reply to all of the above using a post for each quote. That would boost my post count as well as help in contributing to the required 3 posts per day average to start catching the Amex thread. :p

I upgraded to Firefox 3.5 this morning, and so far have noticed it is rendering pages quicker; this would be due to the new Gecko rendering engine I assume.... anyone else noticed an improvement?

I've also upgraded (both on home and work machines), but haven't noticed anything spectacular yet. Will take a while to notice (esp. on work machine due to superior bandwidth).

That will put a dent in your windfall!
I won't know the full extent of the damage until I get notification from the ATO if there are going to be any fines or interest due.

At least I got the tax returns out of the way and I can sleep at nights knowing that I have done my duty and I am no longer a wanted man.

Potentially there can be a fine of $550 (could be a little more now) for returns that are over a certain length of time overdue. As discussed previously with you, they do charge them where there is a pattern of failure to lodge and tax owing. More details on the ATO site. Note that tax owing in one year, which is submitted with later years (which have returns) can cause a FTL penalty for each of the years.

FTL's generally aren't charged where refunds are due for the returns - although they can apply if the ATO feels that they are required.

From another thread:

Hmmm, I'm like the majority here - always remember just Golg or Platinum. Upon checking now, just Gold.

Hmmm, I suppose if I drop to Silver, it may come up with Lifetime Silver or Lifetime Qantas Club.

I agree, sounds like the gremlins at work (or being fixed).
Golg! Glod!

For a second there I was in the discworld!!

Well the way it is right now 2002-03 and 2003-04 were both late but I had a refund on both cases. So for now 2004-05 and 2005-06 I am owed a substantial amount by the ATO which is negated by me owing the ATO some money in 2006-07 and I technically get a refund in 2007-08 plus the bonus.

Worst case scenario is I get charged a maximum of $550 in fines for 2006-07. Not blaming anyone but myself for leaving them that late especially since I was due to get some money back in the first couple of years.

Gee thanks :D

Any time :)

Thinking i should do my tax like JohnK.... maybe, possible, if i feel like it one day... grrrr i hate tax. I always make sure my company tax is done but personal seems just to get left till way too late !

This weekend I am meant to but to gether my BAS and start entering everything for the 09 tax year for the accountant. Then again the days are fine,24C and I really dont feel like it.

Reading the sydney airport message board I discovered that apparently there are a few airline staff with a sense of humour.

Assuming there are no more posts in the Amex thread and the off-topic thread maintains ~3.03 posts per day then the off-Topic thread should overtake the Amex thread in ~433 days or in ~14 months or ~6 September 2010....
With the posting rate on this thread now rocketing up to 3.15 posts per day then the date changes to the 4th August 2010 :!:

I imagine the last thing you would want is pointless and nonsensical posts which lead only to the outcome of despoiling your calculations. :p
