Well it is time for me to sign off for a week or so as I go into hospital tomorrow for major surgery. I will be in hospital for about a week and then malingering at home and driving my wife nuts ;) for quite a few weeks after that. I’m not allowed to travel for 6-8 weeks after the surgery so I have plenty of time to plan my next adventure. :D Currently that is to NZ for the Hawke’s Bay FT DO but I have a few other thoughts happening that could transpire into something earlier.

You don’t have talk about me too in my absence, though I am sure that the site will manage admirably without my help.
Possibly upsetting for some and don't care from others but I survived the surgery and am back at home.

The minimum hospital time for the operation is normally about 4 days. There could be a message as they threw me out in three! Still very sore and awkward but upright.

I had the same nurse this morning as Wed morning. On Wed she had to lift me the 2 steps from the bed to the chair. Today I got up and went and had a shower without assistance.

No physical activity for six weeks so I look forward to the time going by so I can get back to normal.

Thanks for the update, and glad that you are out of hospital which must mean you are on the mend. :D

For his sake, I hope not; I'm basically doing that atm (although gainfully employed) and it's not all it's cracked up to be...:!:

Glad to hear all went well Bill.

England scored 425 in their first innings and Australia are in a bit of trouble at 2/22.

... I survived the surgery and am back at home. ...
Best wishes Bill ...

Well, it's been all bad news since I got home:
  1. 4 Corners had an article tonight about BHP and Shenhua in the Liverpool area of NSW, which is prime agricultural land on excellent aquifers which may also form part of the Murray-Darling...and which has potential coal reserves. Irrespective of the morals and practicalities of the go or no-go of the activity, the story wasn't very well structured, but in saying that, the speaker BHP supplied to speak on the company's behalf needs a serious lesson in Communication 101 and Community Relations 101. A waste of 50 minutes of prime news story.
  2. Media Watch shows its regular parade of substandard subhuman journalism, which is sickeningly becoming more the norm than the exception.
  3. Australia have lost the second Ashes test in appalling circumstances; full credit to the people of Mother England - Australia were in a comfortable position to win this test but once again capitulated in embarrassing fashion. At this rate, we might as well rightfully give the English the Ashes, plus the a***s of the entire Australian team on a platter to boot.

Is there any unbiased, good news today???

Unbiased? I don't know about that but I have good news of my own,my girlfriend of 6 years,Joanne, has agreed to become my wife!:):):)

Congratulations, NIGELINOZ, that's wonderful news!

Congrats to Joanne, too. So when is the big day?

There will probably be two ceremonies as her family are all in the UK and mine are here but we are thinking about early autumn next year which of course is spring in the UK so should be good weather for both places.
I have been trying to get the courage to ask her for about a year but I decided on the weekend to go for it and went out on Saturday afternoon and bought a beautiful ring which just happened to be the right size for her finger.
Flashed the amex card and suddenly I am $1600.00 poorer but one happy chappy.

Gee you are hard to please.
Story 1 is fascinating-amazing to see the old Nats being the "greenies" with Wong and Garret nowhere to be seen.
Story 2 well it is good to see journalists skewered.
Story 3.You are being really tough.Go back to the first 4 wickets the Aussies lost-one catch of a no ball, another that the bat missed the ball by inches and a third going to hand via the grass.I would say the Aussies were beaten by pathetic umpiring and those in charge of this game should be retired.

Congratulations and thanks for the good news to end the day with.

Maybe you are $1,600 poorer but I am sure you will be richer in other ways.
