Congrats.Good to see another honest man ;)
Now does this mean the end of mileage runs and dare I say it mattress runs.
Probably means the end f two of my favorite things in life-QF and CX J class.
although I have no doubt the soon to be missus will expect at least QF J class on the A380 for the trip back home.

But think of the Amex MR points you earned in the process ;).

Congratulations.

Australia have lost the second Ashes test in appalling circumstances; full credit to the people of Mother England - Australia were in a comfortable position to win this test but once again capitulated in embarrassing fashion. At this rate, we might as well rightfully give the English the Ashes, plus the a***s of the entire Australian team on a platter to boot.

Don't want to sound picky, but England's opening wicket stand in the 1st innings of the match was 196, they went on to make 425, Oz responded with 215 and started their 2nd innings 521 runs behind...cannot see where they were remotely comfortable (aside from before the toss) to do anything but lose.

Extremely disappointing to watch Tom Watson narrowly lose the British Open Golf at Turnberry. Still a wonderful effort form someone 10 weeks away from his 60th birthday. One of the few true gentlemen of the game of golf who is thinking about retiring next year. He will be sadly missed....

They're one of the best teams in the world, and while that was always going to be a massive amount to chase, they've made similar (if not slightly lower) totals convincingly before.

It was a good match.

Finally some good news for me as well. Mum called earlier today to say that my tax refund for 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 arrived and it would appear that I have avoided any penalties. :)

No sign of the $900 bonus cheque though....

Well done JohnK. We can both toast our refund cheques tonight then :). Now that your 2008 Notice of Assessment has been sent, they can now assess your eligibility for the bonus $900. That should show up in ~3 weeks.

NIGELINOZ and Joanne, congratulations. Yes, things sure change when you get married

I can confirm the earthquake. Being my first one I was surprised to see the glasses in the bar swaying and initially thought I was really drunk, until I stood up and felt the floor move too.

Was great.

All the Australians made to flee the bar quickly while the New Zealanders and I stayed and enjoyed the good vibrations, I was hoping for aftershocks... but none came. :(

twas a big quake, and move NZ closer to Australia

Te Anau has moved 100mm westwards. Bluff moved west by 30 millimetres, Alexandra, by 20mm, and Dunedin, by 10mm.
Christchurch may have shifted marginally closer to Australia, but only by a tiny amount.

What happens when a SQ flight gets delayed....

Haha. Just remember next time you have a dummy spit in public, someone may be filming you :)

Just like that CX incident

Compared to the CX incident, this is lame. Heck, an Aussie could do a much better job than that (dummy spitting, that is).

Besides, this is Singapore, and she's a Singaporean. I wouldn't expect her to complain any other way (very predictable, right down to her "threat" that if she doesn't get on this flight then she will see that the agent is dismissed), no matter if she was a no-status or a PPS.

She might get an apology from SQ; if she gets compensated handsomely like the CX woman then that is sickening.

If you haven't appreciated some of the Singaporean societal aspects which create this kind of attitude, Singaporeans can* be some of the biggest butt kissers in the world; I suppose that's a better form of flattery than bribes or corruption (oh, wait.....). Also, have a look at the 5 Cs of Singapore.

*note the choice of words! I did not say "are"...

Interesting stuff. Seeing as NZ was just stretched out a little, does that mean they've got marginally more land mass now? :p

Before she completely lost it, what she did say was true. They could (should) have made an announcement in the lounge for their frequent flyers and/or PPS members.

Threatening people with dismissal is by no means a uniquely Singaporean thing. Having worked in public facing roles in the past, I know that having a customer threaten to have you dismissed is quite common in Australia. And even in Australia the threat often comes dripping with DYKWIA.

The CX woman got an apology and compensated for the video appearing on youtube, not because she was denied boarding.

Oddly enough, I have been to a decent share of lounges that do not do any announcements at all. Luckily there is a FID in the lounge, otherwise you may just blissfully miss your flight.

That can go both ways. You should know when your flight is departing and what time it is now, and lounges should be quiet and peaceful, with less announcements than are made outside.

But for delicate issues like this, you'd of thought they could approach the guests in the lounge, rather than having them go to the gate to find out they're not going anywhere. The rest of the cattle can do that as they have no where else to go for updates.

There needs to be a better way to display flight announcements in a lounge without disturbing everyone. One day they'll figure it out.
