Re: Who says share markets ALWAYS make money over long time periods?

I like this too, my OH tells me I could win a medal for shopping, once in the USA we had to go back to the hotel so he could bandage my feet before we set off again !

Thats the spirit we like to see here.

Maybe we need a dedicated shopping thread?

Re: Who says share markets ALWAYS make money over long time periods?

. Plans have changed. MrP back from NZ and I updated him on the flights. Sweetly he insists he wants to only fly back together. I have switched his flight to mine and even got us sitting together.

I have advised I will have unfettered access to shopping the two days before we leave. Fine with him - he will go to the North Shore - Waikiki - anywhere but the shops.

So will now be spending more nights on Hawaii Island (Kona - volcano - snorkelling with Mantas).

So Alaska and Hawaii combo. An eclectic mix along with a single engine plane flight to the summit of Denali!

Loved Kona when I went years ago. Jealous ;)

Re: Who says share markets ALWAYS make money over long time periods?

Our work social group runs a machine and they charge $1 for sodas. Has worked great for the staff. One repair needed in a decade and we provide the power.
I am 65 and it is 3500 night time sleeps to make it to 75.

Does the social group own the machine?

We're considering options including buying a machine or letting the vending machine company supply the machine & we take commission on sales.

It doesn't have to be that way.

My parents retired around 50 years of age. They have had a comfortable lifestyle and have not missed out on anything.

I had plans to retire at 50. New plan is to retire at 55 but could be longer. I can retire now but that means the travel game is over. Trying to convince myself retirement is the way go and stuff status and flying around everywhere.

When you have a kid you'll never retire.

The market price of CBA atm is just higher than the retail offer....I'll decide tomorrow as to whether I cancel the order!

Just cancelled as the Cba market price now is $72.06 only marginally above the rights price!

Disclaimer:
Yes, I am addicted to TBI.

BigIsland1.jpg

Repeat after me; "The Big Island, the Big Island..."

Or the Island of Hawaii but (do not make locals cringe) NEVER Hawaii Island!

Have you read "The Curse of Lono"? If not, read it as soon as possible so you can possibly alter your habits on TBI.

Although you may void your hire car insurance coverage as a result...

Did you know the 2nd biggest ranch in all of the US is on the Big Island?

Have you been to Kona (home of the Ironman...) before?

Tried "Triple Tropical Blend" espresso at the Saturday morning stalls?

Gone on a DIY tour of some of the coffee plantations - be warned a couple will take a LONG time to be convinced that you really not there to buy some green leafed material. Nothing like the smell of all the coffee husks etc used as mulch.

There's an 'alternative' newspaper/newsletter that's worth a look at, Coffee Times - Directory Of Past Feature Articles

Coffee Times - Index of Feature Stories despite what it says is a guide to the Big Island

Fancy some star gazing - also one of the best spots in the world (helps to have a giant observatory & telescope.Visitor Information Station

Heard about making energy from cold water? nelha.hawaii.gov/

Visited Kilauea? It can get VERY cold there. To see the fireworks (lava flowing into the ocean) you need to be there after dark - so you need a good torch, strong shoes and windproof jacket & jeans etc.

(Best overheard comment - 'Look honey, they're wearing plastic wrap' - T-shirts & shorts do not cut it even in the midst of summer, so we bought 2 disposable rain ponchos, the winds can get very strong as night falls on the black lava fields)
Kīlauea Visitor Center - Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park (U.S.

It is WORTH waiting to see the video shown at the visitor centre to get an idea of the scale of Kilauea.

A visit to the Kona King Kamehameha Hotel is worthwhile (next to the pier) as they have a historical display throughout the ground floor. Their luau is also traditionally the best in Kona (and Oahu). DO NOT volunteer for the hula competition unless you are well lubricated.

If there's some 'fun' event on, and you get tempted to take part - be warned - the locals are COMPETITIVE. Two 50-something women swam over me and I was 3rd last into the water - they were the only ones behind me and not for long!

Now when can I create an excuse to go back again...

Following this discussion with interest ...

Ideas please. Place to stay. Things to do. This will be in June. Rainy in parts?

Does Eeyore want to come with us? Maybe he will be in Europe then?

Went in June many years ago as a child. So I probably wouldn't be much help.

I really loved boogie boarding in 20ft surf on the North Shore, all the snorkelling, going up Mauna Loa, and seeing the manta rays at night.

Yeah, I know it isn't Hawaii Island but I wanted to differentiate between the term Hawaii meaning Oahu and the rest of the islands, and specifically the big island Hawaii. Clearly should have done this in my first post - Hawaii (Island). ;)

Thanks for the tips coming.

We last went to Hawaii (Oahu) in December 1995.

If you have the presciption (or you can ring the optometrist back in Australia), you can get a cheap pair made quickly in Thailand :)
Thanks. Would have been too difficult and I am due for another free pair in January.

But all good. Back in SIN now and went to transfer desk F and glasses in lost and found so got escorted to collect them bypassing immigration queue. The walk from F41 to transfer desk to lost and found and back to F42 has burned the calories of the 3 beers I just had. No time for lounge access though.

So I took up the CBA offer.... Last got em at $40.... So figured I would get purchase back in dividends.....

Glad that SIN L&F came through.

Well erkpod and Jessica we originally tried an honour system with drinks in a fridge in a lunchroom about twenty years ago.
Getting the push button drink dispenser has worked well for years now. We don't do the caffeine overcharged drinks....just the normal soft drink cans....
On CBA I took up the $71.50 deal and many won't do the one for 23 take up. If the stock price drops to $60 or $65 then there will be lots of retirement money lost.
